The Fire Never Dies: One Man's Raucous Romp Down the Road of Food, Passion and Adventure

Rate this book
In these wide-ranging tales from a life on the road, Vietnam vet and “adventure eater” Richard Sterling takes the reader deep into the heart of cultures, from Asia to Africa to North America. Whether breaking bread with a murderer in the Baja desert or enjoying a shipboard dalliance with a mysterious new acquaintance on the South China Sea, Sterling’s faith in humanity is continually renewed through the sharing of food, drink, and passion. Provocative and testosterone-edged, his writing is also poignant and hilarious.

Food and travel book found at Page in the Sun here in Vallarta. An uncharacteric blind pick from me, so we'll see.

Picked this one up at Page in the Sun here in Vallarta. Supposedly it's about food and travel, two of my favorite things. This was a blind pick, so here's hoping it's a good one.

Meh, this was one just "okay". There were a couple of decent stories about the author's travels as a Navy man in Southeast Asia, but overall, this just didn't have high quality writing.

This goes well with the Harrison, in its fetishization of masculinity and weaponry. Also its gluttony.

I don't know. The best of the stories I had read anthologized elsewhere, which didn't help. It's fine, just not more than that. Some spots were lovely or evocative. Mostly, though, I hope I never meet the man in person because I am *certain* he would be a big, stinky bag of annoying.
