This book is one of the most moving books for children I have ever read. It's another book I picked up while at Edwinstowe Library in December, and I've only just got round to reading it.
It's about Ioulia Lemonides, a Greek-Cypriot girl who moves to England after her family witnesses a terrible war. Ioulia, or Julia as she is known in England, speaks very little English and does not hasten to learn since there are other Greek-speaking girls in her class at school.
I'm not going to say any more than that; just that it's a great book, definitely worth reading. It's a story about friendship; and how hard it can be sometimes. It's a story about determination; and how one girl is forced to adapt to a whole new climate, language and culture.
