Ninth Floor

Rate this book
Over the past two years, Jessica Dimmock has photographed a group of die-hard heroin users living on “The Ninth Floor” of a Manhattan building in a surprising, powerful, and intimate way. The tale of the terrible consequences of heroin abuse has been documented many times before, but Dimmock epitomizes the attitude of the concerned photographer by her deep compassion for the people she portrays. The photographs brilliantly capture the chaotic atmosphere of human lives spinning out of control. Dimmock’s contemporary visual language, coupled with a strong narrative approach, compels the viewer to understanding and to care.

This is a somewhat interesting (and depressing) photography book documenting the lives of several young drug addicts living on the 9th floor of an apartment builing in New York City during 2004-2006. This is the type of documentary work that makes people cringe...
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the photographs are the kind that will evoke compassion for those struggling with addiction. Sad yet hard to not look at. Haunting.
Dimmock is a talented photographer.
