Saving Solanda by Marie Gilbert

Genre: Sci-fi

The Copious Cosmos and Cultures Collide, leading to either their Collective Catastrophe or Collaboration.

Saving Solanda is book two in a Sci-fi series by Marie Gilbert. The narrative expertly captures humanity's collective shock as the veil of cosmic solitude is violently torn away. The author crafts a chilling portrait of Earth under siege, dominated by a megalomaniacal figure whose ruthless ideology shatters societal conventions and moral boundaries alike. She masterfully weaves a tapestry of unlikely alliances across the stars, as species with conflicting histories and biological imperatives must overcome their differences to face a common threat. The diplomatic tensions and cultural misunderstandings provide rich dramatic fodder while the personal relationships that develop across species boundaries challenge readers to reconsider their own definitions of connection and trust. Her characters' psychological evolution from self-importance to cosmic humility, ultimately arriving at a profound understanding of their interconnectedness. The existential journey feels authentic, with characters experiencing believable doubt, fear, and apprehension before pragmatic necessity propels them toward acceptance of their new reality. Unlike many entries in the genre that rely on improbable heroics, Gilbert refuses to shield her characters from genuine consequences, creating moments of devastating emotional impact. The narrative's unflinching realism extends to its intimate scenes, where the author crafts passionate encounters between characters that serve as authentic releases from the mounting tensions of their circumstances.Gilbert delivers a page-turner that will resonate strongly with fans of both classic and contemporary science fiction, particularly those who appreciate Star Trek's blend of interspecies diplomacy and moral quandaries. Her prose is kinetic yet accessible, propelling readers through complex scenarios without sacrificing clarity. The meticulous editing ensures a seamless reading experience from first page to last. A stellar achievement that earns every bit of its five stars.

There were things about this book that I liked much more than the first one, but also things I didn't care for as much. Overall the story was good, and the last line promises that the next book will be even more interesting. But there were so many grammatical errors and things that didn't really make sense that it was hard to plow through in some parts.
