Harding Edward de Fonblanque Cox (1854 - 1944) lawyer, legal writer, publisher, landowner and sportsman.
Major Cox was born in 1854. He attended Trinity College, Cambridge and made his name as an oarsman (First Trinity First Boat, holder of two River records). In 1914 he became Captain at the Duke of Cambridge Hussars and did service in the war. He worked for the government in several committees, among them The Better Control of Dogs (Home Office 1918).
From an early age he was occupied with rural sports, such as shooting, angling, and hunting. Also at a young age he became Master of the old Berkeley Foxhounds. He also had a career as a promising amateur jockey.
