New source material was made available by the U.S., British, French, German, Japanese, and Soviet governments.

About the author

A specialist in Russian history, John Albert White taught at the University of Hawai'i from 1947 until 1977. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1933 his MA from Columbia University in 1938, and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1947.
