Written by a history professor at the University of Louisville. I read this a few years ago and learned a good deal about the African-American arts scene from roughly the 1920s to the 1940s, with a particular emphasis on Hollywood. As I recall, the writing was serviceable rather than scintillating, but overall it was a good primer on the subject of how the Harlem Renaissance dispersed into the wider American culture.
