Created by the First Civilization, the Unicorn Riders were to ride forever as the guardians of the future, watching over all life forms in the Universe, protecting those unable to defend themselves. But following the uprising, the Unicorn Riders were imprisoned in stone by the Timeless One.
This is the story of the efforts to free them, the story of the blue light and the Orb on the Planet of the Portals.
There is no sex or swearing in this book. The theme subtly delivers a very positive and reassuring message.
Three young Jubrelians embark on a dangerous and daring quest that will take them from the Planet of the Portals to exotic locations on different planets, including the Balancing City of Trudor, and the House of Shimmering Gardens, which is made up entirely of diamonds, crystals, and precious stones, some as large as boulders.
There they must collect treasures and solve riddles and clues, such as, "Seek out the weakest among you, for therein lies your greatest strength,” in order to achieve their objective of trading the Keeper to get the third and last diamond struck from the Orb.
Then they must try to overthrow the Mortar (the Timeless One), to bring about peace.
Along their way, they encounter a clumsy robot, 4x4, (pronounced four by four), who plays an important part in their successes and failures.
I leave you with a quote from the book. “Think of how great we could become if we never made war upon ourselves. …”
I wrote the screenplay, "The Orb," in 1980. I changed it into a book in 1982, put a new cover on it, and changed the title to "The Unicorn Riders of the Orb." The story remained exactly the same. So, "The Orb" book, and "The Unicorn Riders of the Orb" book, are one and the same, just with different covers. I tell you this because used versions of the book are both being sold, and I don't want you to buy both versions with different covers, thinking they are different stories.
The actors, Richard Kiel of James Bond fame and Robert Logan, both said they wanted to be in the movie version. My writers guild agent sent it to a very, very successful producer, but he told him he only read screenplays from agents that he knew personally. And many said they only do films they write themselves. It's a very closed shop. It is difficult to get anything read. And back then, before the digital era and green screens, the movies were massively expensive to make.
So I turned the screenplay into a book in 1982, and then into an ebook with Amazon in October of this year, 2022. My grandson, Erik Moody, helped me convert it into an ebook.
I have placed the book and ebook in many school districts in Minnesota. The teachers read the story and approved it for their students to read. It has no swearing or sex in it. And it has a very positive and reassuring theme. It also contains riddles and clues the reader must try to solve.
I am continuing to place the ebook in other school districts in other states too.
I am confident that you, as a reader, will enjoy the story. That's why I have never given up on it.
I like stories where there is no swearing or constant sex. And where you can actually think through and solve riddles and clues yourself. And stories that leave you feeling good and satisfied. The cover clearly states that the Unicorn Riders were embedded in stone, and this is a story about the efforts to free them. So I disagree with those 1 star reviews about there not being enough unicorns running around. And the riddles and clues the reader has to solve to complete the tasks are anything but boring. Solve this one: Seek out the weakest among you for therein lies your greatest strength.
