Review - First Love Matters ...So Does the Second By Vishal Sah

Quote for this book :- Live life to the fullest because it only happens "Once"

My Views :-

Love - An overrated emotion which ignites at first sight, prosper after first talk, sparks on first date, evaporates after first physical contact and finally dies a dramatic death till u find someone else

My Review:-
Love.
What does love actually mean?
Any guesses?
Quoting from the dictionary, Love is an intense feelingof affection and care towards another person.

Love and Ambition are two different things. When a person's love and ambition, both are same, he/she doesn't find any difficulty in taking any decision. However if they are not same, then comes the time to prioritise as to what is most important to that person - Love or Ambition?

Here the novel "First Love matters, so does the second" written by Vishal Sah and published by Half Baked Beans is the story about a young boy Vishal Kapoor and his friends.

Vishal is a young teen in his school. As all teenagers, he like a girl from her class. Her name is Vedika. Fornuately he gets the opportunity to sit with her in the class. With the passing of time, they become very good friends and he falls in love withher. However when he decides to propose her, she informs him that she has entered into a relationship with her tuition mate Arnav without knowing that he was going to propose her. This news breaks his heart and he goes in depression where he is unable to decide what he wants to do in his future. In the mean time, his bestfriend Shaurya enters into relationship with Myra whom he liked and loved very much. Days passes by and results comes out.All of them joins the school. However Vedika leaves the school due to transfer of his parents to Shimla. During this two years, life gives him a second chance and he again falls for a girl, Shreya. They get into a relationship and everything goes well untill Shreya moves to some other city after her schooling gets completed. Everyone start drifting from each other, with whom once they promised to be together always.
What had happened that seperated Vishal and Shreya?
Why did Shaurya and Myra drift fromeach other?
Did Vishal and Devika ever meet again?
What happened at their final reunionat Myra's house?
Why do Vishal call all of his friend together?
What had happened to him?
You shall find all the answers to these questions when you will read this novel.

First love matters, so does the second is the story about teenage life and how it is important to choose things properly when times comes about taking difficult decisions. It also shows the immaturity of teens and how things end up or become worse due to reluctency or stupidity of a person.
The story takes us to our teenage and school life and I promise every reader shall find oneself in this story playing some role or the other and shall enjoy the ride eventually.

The Characters of the novel are perfect portrayed. However there are a lot of subordinate characters which confuses many a times. One has to look back in the novel to know whether he has read this character before and what role he played in the story. There are lot of grammartical mistakes, printing errors and variousother mistakes which makes reading difficult a bit. The author and publisher must look into it and make the correction accordingly for a more better ride.

Overall the novel is a good read. It brings both smiles and tears at different times. It shall be most likedby young teens or persons who wants to take a dip into their school life and want to enjoy and remembertheir past school and college days.

irst of all a very big thanks to Tushti Bhatia, Author Paradise and Vishal Sah for a signed review copy. Well, this is a debut novel of Mr. Vishal who is currently pursuing his bachelor degree from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

Initial Impression:
Book cover seems quite simple yet attractive. I also got an attractive bookmark in the book. It has approx. 120 pages which made it a quick read so I finished it in a single round of reading. When I read the blurb I thought that the story will be same like other teenage love story but when I read it, I found the real story.

Review:
First Love Matters so does the Second is a debut novel of Vishal Sah and falls under romance genre. Almost half of the story is a first person narrative of Vishal who is a cancer patient. The story mainly revolves around him and his friends Shaurya, Myra, Ananya, Vedika, Shreya and Aaryahi. He remembers his school life and mention how he met his first crush and get failed to express his feelings at the right time for which he regret and then how he met her second love. From the bond between Vishal and Shaurya to expectations of Vishal’s parents towards him. From his love life with Shreya to Unexpected illness, Author has tried to narrate mixed emotions and it seems like a well done job. The story was flowing well when events turned in a manner that his life, along with others change drastically.
Author has tried to put some humor at some place which actually curved a smile on reader’s face. Though story is quite simple and with a predictable narration but yet not boring. All in all he has tried to bind the readers with the whole story-line by keeping it simple.
Author has also tried to portray various emotions through his story. It is a story I think every college goer can easily connect with.

Positive:
·         Simple and easy to read. Narration style is very simple so does the language.
·         Use of humor is quite impressive. Author has also tried to put some great effort in use of phrases and dialogue delivery.
·         A great effort of narrating a fresh story on an old story plot.

Negative:
·         Grammatical errors at some point have faded the flow of the story.
·         Editing could have been done more keenly.
·         Use of long and unwanted sentences could be avoided.

Verdict:
In perspective of a debut book it has a new and quite attractive story on the same old school-teenager’s love plot. Author has instilled all his effort to make it simple and easy to understand. It is a story which actually takes its readers on a joyride of emotions and bring back to their school days. A simple story of an average boy who taught some serious lessons of life through his experiences. It is quite a thin book in terms of pages so one can easily read it in a single round. So if you want to read a quick read and want to go back in your old school days then I’m sure you will not regret with this book.
Exclusively available on Amazon and various bookstores near you for about Rs.199 so you can grab your copy from there.

Ratings:
Book cover: 3/5
Story-line: 3.35/5
Characterization: 2.45/5
Overall Rating: 3.45/5

First love matters so does the Second is Vishal Sha’s debut novel. I won this book through his giveaway, and I started off with nil expectations as I don’t know much about the novel or the author. Except that, I am connected through social networks.

The novella falls under ‘Romance’ and ‘Lit-Lad’ genre. A fiction that takes you through school and college days kindling memories. A college-goer will relate and love this book.

The story revolves around Vishal, his friends, his love interest, and family. The author walks you through a few years of the protagonist life.

First Impression: A catchy title and a beautiful cover, a novel that would grab your attention.

Overall Impression: A decent trial, and a warm read. It is light and sweet that you can read through over a cup of coffee. It goes easy on the reader, no room to fiddle around or no flabbergasting moments. I also loved the chapter titles; that curves a smile.

What did I love about the book? – Few phrases and dialogues were very cute and sweet to read. Example:

How was I supposed to know the value of cot 45 on the first day in Class 10th? I didn‘t even know the full table of 18.
I was just noticing her lips, occasionally touching each other. I couldn‘t help smiling.

but I guess when you are dying, everybody‘s attitude towards you changes.

Wow Factor: 1) Nice dialogues and phrases that are witty 2) Simple language and vocabulary to read without having to check a dictionary.
3) Pain was well described

Frown Factors: 1) Grammatical errors 2) Lengthy sentences, descriptions, and timelines that were not necessary. Example: He called me at 6:15 AM and he came home by 7:15 AM kinds were not at all required. I will blame the editor for this. 3) The author used caps locks here and there to show the emotion, but I am against this. He should have picked right words to showcase the emotions

My opinion: Good not great, a gentle read that will take one back to their good old days.

" First Love Matters ...So does the Second " is the debut work of 20 year old Vishal Shah . Plot belongs to YA category jammed with Emotions , revolving around a cancer patient Vishal and is narrated in Ist form by the protagonist itself in most part of the writing .Story launched with Vishal's days of schooling , 10th Standard , where he used to study with his best friends Shaurya , Myra , Aaryahi , Vedika and later Shreya too becomes a part of his story . With time , Vishal falls for Vedika but a night before his proposal to her , she reveals herself to be in relation with her Arnav . But as legends said , time heals more or less everything , Vishal find his happiness with Shreya who's two years junior to him . But events turned in manner that his life along with others change drastically .
Applause for Author for writing the plot in humorous way that at various stances makes the reader laugh out loud . Vishal is embedded as an average student who hates mathematics but taught his friends some precious lessons . Shaurya turned out to be my favourite character from the story 'cause of his real cool qualities from being good in Mathematics to having ability to initiate talk . Shaurya & Vishal's relation shined as an inspiring friendship . Ananya's love for her brother makes every guy reader wish to have a sister like her . Dr. Mehra , Vishal's mentor is portrayed as a father figure to vishal .

Fav. Moments :
# Sharya & Vishal's conversation
# Shreys's verdict that she loves Vishal on top of hill .
# Surprising Myra on her birthday .
# Vedika's emotions for Vishal

Situations :
# Contradiction in narration in very end .
# Story seems quite predictive apart from Vedika's entry .
# Some events are forcefully inserted in the plot .

So " first Love matters ... so does the Second " is an old story in new format but surely takes the reader on journey making him/her experience various emotions , turning leaves one by one .

The story begins with the scene where Vishal, the protagonist, is getting ready for school. He is all excited as he is starting off with SSC and that he is going to meet Vedika, his crush. Luck favours Vishal and he is made to sit with Vedika. Their friendship blooms and strengthens. Over time, Vishal falls in love with Vedika. He decided to confess his feelings to her but Vediak in turn surprises him. She gets committed to Arnav. Vishal’s first love remains incomplete. Vedika walks out of his school and his life.

Life gives him second chance. Shreya enters his life and Vishal finds his long lost happiness. He performs well in his HSSC exams and secures admission in to medicine. Vishal’s happiness is short-lived. It seems as if he had been taken up higher only to be knocked down again.

How will Vishal react to this situation? Will he accept the reality or challenge the nature’s threat? Will his friends support him through this ordeal?

The narration style is simple and touching. It reminded me of my school days. The flow of events in the story is also done well. However, the transition of the past to the present at the end is confusing. Being debut, I say that the author has done justice with the story.

Likes:

Vishal and his gang’s friendship.
Vishal’s love for Shreya.
Dedication of Vishal, Ananya, Shaurya and Shreya towards their career.

Dislikes:

The editing has suffered in many places.

I rate:

Cover: 3/5
Story: 3/5
Characters: 2.5/5

My overall rating for First Love Matters… So Does The Second is 3/5 stars.

Review:
It's a story about 4-5 teens vishal vedika(even though how I hate this name to be together ) shreya shaurya myra and there school life. Its takes on life journey from being 10th standard kids to planning your journey ahead and what task are involved. And the risk of losing friendship for creating ones are involved.

The wow factor of the book is its awesome ending. It was difficult relating the ending that it can be written by 20 yr old boy. As it had a perfect mix of emotions and it was well potrayed.

The downpour of the book is there was this huge mistake that author didn't notice that when the 10th results was declared the results was shown vishal sah who when enrolls for 11th becomes Vishal kapoor.
In chapter 10 few charecters were mixed up.
Where ananya was already present her name was on the call list. This book had few sentence framing error.

Overall I can clasify it a teen-romance book

Love is like a crystal which will shine in you every moment and the yearning will rejuvenate you by every passing second. When the feeling of rejection in love knocks your door you will find the pieces of your heart splintered. But it is not always the end of the love because far at someplace someone still exists to adore and cherish your love.

‘First love matters so does the second’ is the debut novel of author Vishal Sah based on the similar situation as mentioned over the top. The cover of the book is simple and captivating. The title clearly says that the story will lead you to address the vibes of love which are braided twice.
