About the author

Joyce Sterling Scarbrough

21 books44 followers
Joyce is an intelligent Southern woman weary of seeing herself and her peers portrayed in books and movies as either post-antebellum debutantes or barefoot hillbillies á la Daisy Duke, so all her heroines are smart, unpretentious women who refuse to be anyone but themselves. In addition to her novels, she has short stories featured in several anthologies.

Joyce has lived all her life in southern Alabama, she's the mother of three gifted children, and she's been married for over 30 years to her husband Tony—a public school teacher, coach extraordinaire, and the love of her life.

This is my first ever book by Joyce Scarbrough.
I got the book from Amazon kindle store, for free.
The book is about a woman who loves the color blue. How the color blue saves her life.
When a crazy man abducts her, while she was having her morning walk, code blue or how her blue earphones helps to szve her.
Well, the story was different. But it ended in a way that I didn't expect. I know it is a short story, but I felt that, I wanted to hear more about the story.
I think my rating is fair enough on the basis of my reasoning.

This is an interesting little short story where a woman is reaching her later years and realizes she misses the whistles she used to get. She begins going on walks everyday and it desperate for people to notice her. She feels invisible. The problem? The wrong person notices her and the story takes a complete turn. Full of tension and a fun read.

Some experiences make us perceive that we do not matter anymore, and on the other hand some other experiences prove to us that we actually do, just like everybody else.

Everyone of us has our own story, which makes us better understand ourselves and better understand others with more empathy.

The main character in this short story faces such challenges and experiences as she begins approaching midlife being a recent divorcee. She has certain views and perceptions about herself and about others. She goes on her journey to learn her lessons and gain her understanding by experiencing some usual and some very unusual events within her small neighborhood while practicing her new year resolution of walking a mile everyday, as an act of self care with deeper truths behind.

Great book. Highly recommend but I wish it were an actual novel. Based on the story line it could have made a great thriller
