The true story of a young man with no flying experience starting a Royal Air Force pilot course and becoming immersed in a challenging world of hard work and hard play. To qualify, Edwards needs to pass a series of relentlessly intensive courses. Keeping a diary of his progress, he records the acute pressure of the training programme and how this is counterbalanced by the sometimes hilarious social life of his fellow trainee pilots.
The training becomes increasingly tense as they take charge of evermore expensive, powerful aircraft. Handling these incorrectly can lead not only to loss of job, but also to loss of life. These young men are not supermen. They behave in the same way as other people of their age. They have bad days at work as everyone does and at times struggle to achieve the required standards. As the diary progresses, the work gets harder and the play matches it in energy and fervour. This is the three-year journey of an ordinary man being trained to do an extraordinary job as a full-fledged combat pilot.
Great read about the evolution of a fighter pilot. Fascinating to learn about what is required to fly and fight with modern combat aircraft. Thank you Trevor.
Great read about the evolution of a modern day fighter pilot. Fascinating to Lear about what it really takes to become a modern day combat pilot. Thank you Trevor.
