I was in 6th and my teacher assigned us a project to do something creative or something…I can’t really remember! But what I do remember is that for my project I wrote a story that turned into a book with a cover that I created from construction paper and had laminated. So I was basically writing about my fantasies, hopes, and dreams in terms of friendships. I was a bit lonely growing up and the quiet type that kept to herself because I didn’t feel as though anyone around me could really relate to me or understand me in the lest. Now, here is this book I wrote for the class project. It got an A! Afterward, my teacher calls my mom up to ask her to drop by and I thought…”Oh no! What did I do?!” *Laughs to herself* Needless to say it was about the book that I wrote and the teacher loved it so much that she decided to share it with my mom and to tell her, “Your daughter is a great writer! She should be an author one day.” And there it was! Becoming a writer from that point on became my dream. But as I got older it slowly faded away as I continued through school the shy timid girl that felt that the world was against me. This is something that resonated within me and kept me from following my dream of being a writer so much so that in college I was completely lost going from one major to another not able to find my place in the world.
Then one fateful day in 2014, I almost died. A major surgery went wrong and I almost died from internal bleeding. Thereafter, I suffered for weeks from pneumonia. It was a turning point in my life. After returning home from the hospital I was rummaging through some old stuff that I didn’t realize I still had so I decided to clean house. Then, I stumbled upon the story that I forgot about as it was buried away underneath a ton of junk and papers never to resurface again….like my dreams. I read the story after I don’t know how many years and laughed at how silly it was! I said to myself, “My teacher thought this was good?” Then I read it again and again and again until it hit me, “Where did my dreams and aspirations go?” It was in this moment that I realized, I need to get this dream back. I need to write again even if it's only for myself this is what I want to do. So, I rewrote the story and added some adulterated stuff and changed the story a little bit to make it more adult. *Smiles*
