The value in owning these original editions is in their collector's value; many of these early Osprey Men-at-Arms titles (such as this one) have been replaced in the series by much better titles, in terms of better colour plates, more thoroughly researched text, better organized books, the addition of useful sidebars, etc. Still, there is an appeal to these "1st editions" - diamonds in the rough, and in some cases, such as the Waffen-SS volume - crucial information can be found in them that didn't make the transition to the updated edition (in the case of the SS edition, the appointment title for a company first sergeant ("der Spiess").
