What a book! I mean it in all the good ways - its an emotional rollercoaster! Lady Alexandra's father has been trying to get her wed for the longest time, finally at a house party she was to meet Alleyne, a Viscount's son, hopefully sparks would fly. When both of them arrived they obviously they realized a bunch of old people were at the house party, so they switched places with their maid, and valet. An instant attraction between the two and they spent two weeks together with their hidden identity. Eventually they sleep together, and they agree to meet in the morning to elope together. They both have second thoughts about marrying below their station. They both run away they both come back and miss each other. Little does Alexandra know is she's pregnant, she accepts an offer of an elderly duke and she tells him everything, he wants someone who can inherit the dukedom and not go to the next in line. Alleyne on the other hand has gone to America, to get over Alexandra. They meet again three years later Lady Alexandra, now a widow but Alleyne has a fiancee oh boy! But they can't keep their hands off of each other and his fiancee eventually bows out, and goes back to America Eventually they end up together, which was wonderful, this is a really fast paced book, and full of emotions and get ready to get the Kleenex out. First time reading a book by Veronica Crowe and I can assure you it won't be the last one. Ladies this one is definitely worth reading!
* I received and ARC from Netgalley, all views are my own.
What happens when two combustible things come together? EXPLODE! Allayne Carlyle and Lady Alexandra Davenport do not want to be hog tied to anyone because they enjoy their life as it is currently. Alexandria is what one would call an odd duck because she likes men type pursuits such as shooting, fencing, but that is not to say she doesn’t like lady things. She has interests in numerous charities and running her fathers home. Allayne is a rake and loves his pursuit of willing widows. He also is a connoisseur of the arts, well let us say he likes the actresses.
So, let the shenanigans begin because these two are about to be bedeviled by a set of crafty families that are set on hitching their offspring together! Get ready for some laughs and twists!
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
Enemies to Lovers with a very precocious child who hides under her Uncle's desk to hear what she shouldn't. And also manages to find the things that should be kept well hidden and away from young children! Nicely written and well within expected style for a Regency romance, with a heroine who is not such a well behaved young lady who sits with her needlework. she'd rather ride pell mell and shoot - very accurately it has to be said - her pistols. The ones her father gave her! And challenge people to a match... And of course, there is a twist to the plot as she dresses as a maid to put him off, and he does the same and dresses as a valet to put her off. Yet they both fall fall for each other despite this charade and the consequent concern over marrying 'beneath'.
This book was very enjoyable. It was funny and charming thru out whole book. Within a few chapters, I was hook whereas I couldn't put it down. Many times I found myself laughing while reading. I would recommend this book. It was lite and funny. I thought the characters were great and lively. I would like to have more scenes from the supporting group. I have this book a 4 instead of a 5 because I found it was rushed a little at the end. I would like to see a book on Diana in the future and look forward to future books from this author.
Neither Allayne nor Alexandra want to marry. Their families have a different perspective. Follow these two as they do all that they can to avoid the "marriage trap". I will definitely recommend this book. Thank you Veronica Crowe, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
