Having never read "The Jungle Book," I was in for a surprise. I shouldn't have been surprised at how much Disney had edited the classic Rudyard Kipling story and yet I was. This hilo book was chosen for an all ability book discussion. The themes and language is still a higher level than wanted. I would recommend for a middle school level readability scale. Although less pages, the language is still very much an older, classical style which may make it harder for comprehension.
