This is a book in a series of volumes called "The Pyramid Illustrated History of the Movies" which offered "a comprehensive overview of- and brings a fresh perspective to- the influential figures, forms and styles in the development of motion pictures." Initially I thought it similar to those quickly published, poorly researched Hollywood expose style books that are so popular except that it's of much better quality and focuses away from Marlene Dietrich's private life..
This book is filled with pictures (all black and white) of Marlene Dietrich, almost all stills from the movies she acted in. This book focuses solely on her achievements in film, it is not a biography. This book is definitely aimed at her most fervent fans and/or students of the film industry. It contains a lot of information on her films, the other actors involved, and quotes from those who were there.
This is definitely a step above those aforementioned mass produced expose type books. I recommend it for fans of Marlene Dietrich and also people who are interested in those early films.
