This book was silly and engaging. The student who read it smiled all the way through. Though this was a bit above his reading level the story kept him pushing through and making predictions. I recommend it very much.

I would rate this higher, except that I have a hard time with the moral ending of this. It's so great at setting up the suspense. It's a really cute "scary" story for little ones. But in the end, the pig just gets away with stealing, and I have a problem with that.

Peggy the pig loves to dress up with new outfits for every occasion. With a big party coming up, Peggy is looking for a new outfit to wear. Peggy searches and searches and isn't able to find an outfit she likes. Finally as she is walking home she sees the perfect clothes on a scarecrow, so in the middle of the night Peggy puts an old pair of clothes on the scarecrow and takes the scarecrow's clothes. Peggy is very happy with her new clothes but unfortunately for Peggy, the scarecrow is not. The Scarecrow's New Clothes is a nice addition to the generally tame world of easy readers, and would make a great read aloud, with good opportunities to have children be involved as the scarecrow says "Give me back my clothes!" Parents and teachers may want to note that ultimately Peggy scares the scarecrow and gets his clothes in the end, and while that may reassure young readers, her successful theft of the clothes sends a questionable message to young minds. Dutton Children's Books, a division of Penguin Books classifies this book as an easy reader, For a child who reads by phonics, this would indeed be an easy reader, with few sight words. It does contain multi syllable and compound words, which are easy to sound out. THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE HILARIOUS. This book is a kids' thriller, but not too scary.

Peggy the pig loves to dress up for any and all occasions. She searches high and low for the perfect outfit to wear to a party, but to no avail. Finally she sees a scarecrow wearinthree perfect outfit, so she trades clothe with the scarecrow. The scarecrow does not like this, so he comes back for his clothes. I will not spoil the ending.

I love Lisa Thiesing’s silly thrillers for kids. The Scarecrow’s New Clothes is a fun read with just enough suspense for even the youngest listener. Peggy the pig is a great character. She is frightened by this scarecrow but figures out how to frighten him and get her new clothes.

This is a good book to add to your Halloween story collection, but not limited to that holiday. The illustrations are perfect.

Normally we enjoy the peggy series. However, this book I did not like so much. I don't see why peggy is allowed to steal (swap her old clothes for the scarecrow's without permission) and get away with it.

When Peggy takes the outfit of her dreams off a scarecrow, she gets more than she bargained for (and so does the scarecrow!)
