Pulp Friction 2015 #15
High Stakes
High Stakes
Ben Nelson marvels at the resiliency of his lover, Artie Middleton. He takes everything life throws at him and comes out the other end stronger than ever. It’s with this strength in mind that Ben tosses Artie a curveball that will change both of their lives forever.
A single question from Ben’s lips has Artie rushing headlong toward his happily ever after. One that he never thought he’d have and is now being served to him on a silver platter. He has it all—friends, family, and a future. But even a gifted psychic can’t see everything, and Artie is about to get a wakeup call.
Things he thought to be true about his past aren’t as clear-cut as he believed. His history with some of the people in his life runs deeper than he realized. And he’s about to learn a previously unknown threat from his childhood has returned to rip it all away.
Artie soon finds that in this game, the stakes couldn’t be the lives of everyone he loves.

Artie and Ben—I'm really going to miss them when they're gone. Somehow, Parker Williams always seems to write these characters for me. Yes, just for me, so Mardee and Mary, keep your fingers out - Parker loves me best! *grins*
The last I saw, Artie and Ben lost their house in a wicked, preternatural fire. Now they're renting while redoing their home, and next thing Artie knows, SCOTUS has passed gay marriage and Ben is down on one knee proposing. Yes, people, I SQUEED! I could totally picture it in my head. My excitement was significantly minimized, however, when Danny and the Odd Squad stuck their noses into Artie and Ben's life. To be more accurate, Danny wanted to use Artie's powers surreptitiously. In using his gift, Artie discovers some things about his grandmother, things she did to try to protect him and keep him safe from.
"We’re going to celebrate your birthday, you know.”
“Yeah, I know. I’m not afraid. I probably should be, but I can’t find it in me. I watched my grandmother die. I don’t understand what’s going to happen, but if what I saw is true, in two days my whole life may very well change. That necklace holds a bit of my soul that is keeping me safe, or so they say.”
Parker, how could you? That's not how I wanted it to go. There'd better be some serious making up to me, or you might find me on your doorstep. I can't wait for the next book!

t is September, getting closer to a conclusion folks. I have been following this addictive Pulp Friction series for three years now…..A quantum leap for the member authors to have kept up with other endeavors and gifted readers with a chance to read a series, getting a continuing story every two weeks. Which makes it even more interesting, each author is writing their own series within the series, merging their story line with the others, choosing where they want to go within the parameter.
This Third Series used Tom Webb’s and Laura Harner’s series Altered Stated as a starting point and brought the story to New Orleans. It seems fitting this series being paranormal to write it in the Big Easy. Parker William’s standing in for Tom Webb this year has given us a great story with police officer Ben Nelson meeting psychic Artie Middelton on a case Ben was working on. Their efforts almost had Artie killed by a demon, and they thank their lucky stars they have each other.
We are still learning in this fourth round that these authors have even more in store for the readers, ramping up the stories with even more thrills before the grand finale. Parker, bad Parker has left me bereft and empty at this last story…..I can hear the announcer saying in my head …’tune in next week kiddies for the next adventure, same Bat time same Bat channel’….
The mystery of Artie will have to be put on hold……till next time…….Drat you Parker..

Original Blog Post: Review Request: Pulp Friction 2015 Series Rounds 4 & 5 Whooooeee!
After this read, there is a sense of shock as well as loss. No, I refuse to spill what this is all about. Let's just say, Parker Williams kind, KINDA!, broke my heart. Then again, it is because he broke it that I get to see there is a movement in the almost status quo that has plagued the guys of Pulp Friction. They learn a lot of things, the sense of evil is palpable now and worse, the impending sense of doom is getting worse.
This is a suspense-filled read and it sets the course for the rest of Round Four. Details are few and sometimes mind-boggling but it all settles down at the end. I have to note, however, Williams did apologize for what he did here, and I forgive him.
It was a necessary evil. Even if I do hate him a bit.
Now for the next book...
Recommendation:
Get these and read! While I anxiously await the banging endings to Pulp Friction.
Note: eARC copies provided for by Pride Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

As we come toward the conclusion of this year long serial, written by four authors, including Parker Williams, we realize that while there are many kinds of preternaturals existing alongside the humans in the world, it is the demons who are the most dangerous. Yes, some demons seem like good guys (Laurant, the incubus, comes to mind) but when someone disappears or is tortured it's usually a demon behind the deed. Or is it?
High Stakes tells another story of the human-not-quite-human Ben and his lover don't-touch-me Artie. Several of the characters we've grown to care about reappear in this story, including one...well, I can't tell you because that would be a serious spoiler. All I can say is this story is not to be missed. It's short, about 60 or so pages, so you can read it quickly and be prepared for the next story in the Pulp Friction 2015 series.

: I just love this story. Out of all the characters in this series and collection I relate to Artie the most. I love his sweetness yet his power. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue as he finds out more of his past. As usual we get to see more of the others. I love Laurant’s charisma and how he is being more human than ever helping Artie plan for his wedding and being comic relief for the deep dark storyline.
I will say the ending blew me away and I cannot wait to see what comes next.
If you like physics, vampires, mystery and intrigue this is for you!

Four and a half stars!
This is another fabulous story that I couldn’t stop reading. Artie and Ben are perfect for each other. They love so deeply and completely you just know they’re going to spend forever together. Sadly they can’t just live their HEA since there are things after Artie. You get to learn a little bit more about Artie’s past in this book. Plus there’s some hints that give me major guesses on how this is all going to come together. I cannot wait for the next book to come out because major cliffhanger of an ending. But, wow what an ending it is!

Artie learns a lot about his past. Most of his past is not what he thought it was. Ben's proposal has left Artie over the moon. Artie learns there are people that he has deeper ties with, and an evil has come back to interfere with his happily ever after.
Once again, Pulp Friction has not disappointed. The newest author has woven a tale of suspense and love. The cards are being flip over. The reveal is getting closer.
