Zara is a great book written by Jade Kerrion. I admit I am a fan of this series and loved how the author fills in the gaps of the Double Helix Collection with these Case Files, that seem to fit in between the timeline of the Collection. This book focuses a lot on Zara and I am very happy that it does. For a long time, I was not a fan of her, because I didn’t understand how she just didn’t “get” Danyael. It finally became clear that I didn’t get her. This book shows huge character development of Zara while being packed with a lot of action. How the author did that is beyond me but she did.
The pace of this book is plan perfect, it never drags out nor do you ever feel like the author is trying to rush you through the story, however there is so much going on that it feels like the story is flying by. There are some nice twists in this book that I didn’t see coming, but I am starting to expect them with this series. Zara is very well written and pretty much draws you in from the very first page. It is difficult to put down and you will be hooked, just like I was.

I had to go back to read Zara, which was case file no. 2. Reading it out of turn took nothing away from my enjoyment. My personal opinion is read the Double Helix 4 book series first but that the case files can be read, even out of order and make sense. Kerrion has developed a style that provides enough information so that the current story makes sense, without suffering information dump. However, she does have a suggested reading order which puts this between Double Helix books 2 and 3.
Zara can't make complete sense of her feelings as she fears being manipulated by Danyael, an extraordinary empath. She protects him, but he doesn't want to be dependent and her past actions allows for little trust as she is responsible for putting him in a max prison where he is controlled through inhumane practices. While Zara spends a lot of time thinking about Danyael, past circumstances, and her confused feelings, I never felt bogged down by it.
But, writing this review without spoilers is challenging. While the story is about Zara, a master assassin, and her mission, it is also about decisions she needs to make about Danyael.
Zara is on a mission for the U.S. government with a group of SEALS. The goal is to rescue 50 young girls who have been abducted by a terrorist group. Beirut and nearby towns, along with ruins provide interesting locales, customs, and insight into Zara's childhood. Ratcheting up the explosive situation, aside from the SEALS doing their thing, are local terrorist groups, which only Zara knows the good from the bad. But the situation is even more volatile with the politics, CYA behavior by government agencies, and Zara's need to protect family and friends.
She is not sure who to trust in negotiating the minefield of political games, a possible turncoat and a leak, but Klah's insights into Danyael who helped him learn control of his empathy takes some of her focus.
A fast-paced story involving governments, terrorists, betryal, and politics, it is definitely a story of Zara 's self examination during which the action does not slow down.
A 4.5 star read for me, in actuality.
I must mention that the author, having learned of my disabilities affecting my purchasing power, kindly offered me the case series books I was missing with no expectations, understanding that computer and typing, be it 1 finger pecking or 10 key typing, are limited abilities for me. Yet, being so impressed with this series, and the books being well-edited, which is too often lacking, I felt the need to write a review and recommend this series.

I enjoyed the tale of a pregnant assassin dominating in a predominantly male society, and actually using preconceived notions and enforced customs to her advantage. I liked the mention of the empaths, but as I haven't read the other books I can only wonder how they are portrayed.

I loved this book. You see, Zara was always a little bit of an enigma for me. Like I get that she was awesome and that she invited trouble, but I never really got her. This book just revealed so much more about her, its really an essential read to truly appreciate the whole series.
Previously, when I read the other books, I always found it a little bit difficult to believe she loved Danyael. I mean Perfect Betrayal showed that they fell in love, but I always found it a little difficult to believe on Zara's part. I mean she kinda just spends a lot of time criticising him and all of a sudden, she's in love with him. But here, in this book, you start to understand why. Don't get me wrong, I completely ship this couple, I just couldn't see why sometimes. But here, you can't help but see why, when you realise that Danyael makes her a better person. Nothing wrong with her alone, but together, they better each other. She learns compassion and learns to trust others - not a lot, but at least a little bit more than normal. And I thought the last scene before the epilogue was so touching.
In Zara, we learn more about her past and the events that transpired to make her into the person she is today. We see how she fights so hard for the people she cares about and we see how in everything, she falls more in love with Danyael everyday. I think its amazing, her strength of will. Of course, her kick-ass nature helps a lot too. Like omg if I could fight, she would be my idol. I like how she doesn't let a man define her, and she makes her own way, somehow walking away relatively unharmed out of a lot of things. Zara commands respect and I certainly respect her.
This was truly a beautiful story, and I couldn't put it down. The amount of action in this book was just right, and her interactions with other characters is really something that shouldn't be missed. I literally could not put down this book, even though I definitely was supposed to be studying.
I simply love Jade Kerrion. It's not just this book, its all her books. It shouldn't be missed, but don't start here. Start at the beginning and really fall in love with all the characters and the world. It makes this book all the more beautiful.
I can't wait to read the next book now! (Even though I've already read it a few times, it just gets better the more I read it!

ARC REVIEW
I love the Double Helix series and Zara is part of the Double Helix Women series. Zara takes place between books two and three; you glean a lot of information on Zara and her past and her family. This book is full of action and internal struggle.
Zara has the habit of acting before she thinks and that has always lead her straight into trouble it also gets the job done. In this book Zara's Uncle calls in a favor; a group of girls has been kidnapped by one of the local terrorist in Zara's hometown in Beirut. Zara flies in with SEAL team Three to rescue the girls one, one whom is the daughter of a U.S. ambassador. Before Zara can leave she learns she is pregnant, almost into her third trimester. Zara knowing this has got to be Galahad's baby wants to terminate it. Her doctor advises against it but Zara knows the hell she and the baby would go through with Galahad as the father. Not to mention Galahad has turned into a bit of jerk.
Zara while in Beirut steps into a big pile of political bullshit. Conspiracy shrouded in secrets covered in lies, and Zara is stuck in the middle. Soon she is on her own trusting no one, trying to rescue those she calls friends. Meanwhile she is constantly thinking about Danyael and trying to figure out her feeling for him; the feelings she never wanted to let herself feel, the kind of feelings she told herself she should have had for Galahad and not Danyael. You find out more about Zara's past and for once she actually stops and thinks about her actions before she acts on them. Basically WWDD, What Would Danyael Do?

This is my favourite in the books I've read so far from this series. I like Zara - she's a tough lady yet has an interesting depth. This adventure takes place in Lebanon, where Zara gets roped into saving kidnapped school girls. A decent adventure - less mutant influence compared to the other books. I received this book from the writer in exchange for an honest review.

Sara is my favorite characters in the Double Helix series. Strong and capable. But any book in this series is always great.
