An Eternity of Four Years: Catahoula Book 2

Rate this book
A twenty year-old secret explodes to destroy everything precious to Rachel and Ethan, including what they mean to each other. She does the only thing she can do; she runs from the pain. Ethan is left to search for her, but he doesn't know where she went or how he can repair what is so utterly broken-until his mother opens the door called "hope." But through that same door steps the Civil War. From the Field of Honor in New Orleans to the killing fields of Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, Ethan finds himself trapped in a war that seems to go on forever, a war that is keeping him from his quest. The longer it makes him wait, the more difficult finding Rachel becomes. Frustrated, often depressed, and well on his way to becoming a drunkard, Ethan has one friend who truly cares for him, Blue, a slave he won in a duel. Convinced God sent Ethan to rescue him from an evil master, a debt he must somehow repay, Blue vows to help him find Rachel (and his faith) again. And the Legend of Rachel and Ethan is born.

I am retired from my day job (creative director and GM of an ad agency), which means I have more time to spend reading, writing, and painting.

"The Avenging Angel" is the third book of my Catahoula historical fiction series. My fourth book, unrelated to the Catahoula Series is titled "1943." It takes place in modern times and involves solving a mystery (from 1943) and finding the people involved. It contains some adventure, some thrills, some humor, and a little romance as the main character and his Pug dog take a road trip in search of "Miss Betty" on a 1943 WWII Harley-Davidson motorcycle. One reader described it as "Interesting characters, compelling premise, a little wacky, a lot of fun, and a very satisfying read."

Meanwhile, I am doing research for Book 4 of the Catahoula series.

Incredible

I am amazed. This book is historical fiction at its best. Woven into detailed accounts of the Civil War battles is the enduring love of Rachel and Ethan.
This book picks up where The Last Day of Forever : Catahoula Book 1 left off. Rachel has disappeared, Ethan ends up in the Confederate Army in order to save himself from murder charges, and the bloodshed begins.
Throughout the book, passages are written in the first person of either Rachel or Ethan. Their love for each other is the 1 thing holding each of them in 1 piece. The raw accounts of battle will have your blood pounding. Never had I learned as much about the southern experience in battle or the men who fought. Some of it was hard for me to understand without a map in front of me, but I can only imagine the utter strength of those marching 30 miles per day & then engaging in battle! Exhaustion was rampant, but these soldiers preformed. No battle is easy to read. I was in tears during many of Ethan's passages. The characters throughout the book will touch you on so many different levels. I highly recommend that you read this book for yourself. I was unable to put this or its predecessor down. It will get under your skin and into your dreams. It will give you a more thorough sight into what we see of battle today and a better understanding of the horrors our men face when they return.

Catapults Book 2

I loved the story until I got to chapter 9. There was just too much going on and nothing with the story line. I guess being from the south myself, I know from history the details you wrote about. It was a little boring, but when it got back to Ethan and Rachel storyline , I couldn't put it down. Getting ready to start Book 3. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Hearts that are renewed!

As the second was read I find that both books are indeed a rare and beautiful story. The civil war was a horrible time indeed. But the renewal of what happened after wouldn't begin with out it. Just as Rachel and Ethen were destined to have been together so to were North and South needed to find their way back to a new and better Nationhood. I am not saying that the war was right o r wrong but sometimes great loss can be followed by better change. The south and north are still feeling the losses but the change for something to change is indeed beautiful. The love story is a classic and I thank you for the invitation to enjoy it. My rating is 10 Awesome Dawson's. Hooray!!!!!!mjm

Really loved this series. Ethan and Rachel was an amazing story during the few years prior to the civil war to the end of the war. Enjoyed the fact that the story was told with both perspectives for this couple. They both went through hell to be together.
