A short read that is accessible for children who find reading a bit of challenge, or maybe they are a reluctant reader. Also great for young readers who like to be a little scared. Edgar and Mary have vague memories of the house Mr Blood has left them in. Intrigue mounts as the truth reveals itself in this creepy tale.
This is an easy chapter book, what I call a high-low reader. It's a horror story featuring a scary old woman, spiders and a demon. Much more scary than a Goosebumps book but shorter and easier to read. Not for little children though the reading level would seem to make it so. A decent story for what it is, obviously with this limited a vocabulary the story can't be very detailed, but it is a creepy little tale which is quite rare at this reading level. Best suited for mature children or reluctant teen readers.
This book was more terrifying than the first, but then I have a bit of a spider phobia anyway. I'm giving it so many stars because it is the kind of book reluctant readers will have a very hard time putting down. Both of the books in the series that I read were very scary so I would recommend them to readers who enjoy horror. In this book, the two children travel with Mr Blood to an empty house that is inhabited by an evil spider woman.
