A Family for Nicholas

Rate this book
Nicholas Hamilton was not in the market for a wife and family until his parents made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. If he married Moira, the girl who his philandering twin brother had gotten pregnant, they would give him the money for his software startup company. Marrying a woman and claiming her child as his seems a small price to pay for the business of his dreams until he finds himself attracted to his new wife. Moira can't believe that one night of bad choices means that now she has to marry a perfect stranger. If she can get Nicholas to invest half as much time in their marriage as he does in his new company, they might just have a chance at happily ever after.

I kind of want to set up a shelf called: 'never again, even if you paid me' and put both the author and the narrator of this book on it! Dammit this was bad! See my comments during the read for more. I am feeling too much like throwing up to write a review right now.

Where the Hell, did all those 4 and 5 star reviews come from? This was bad! Bad story, bad writing, bad narration. Bad characters. Just bad!

This book fell flat for me. It’s a terrifying story of how one woman had a one night stand and then lost all rights to herself, and to her life. Or rather, how one very weak woman chose submission over fighting.

The books synopsis leads one to believe that the story is about Nicholas, but it’s written over Moira’s shoulder. Take from that what you will. Also, this book is a prime example of why I’m not a fan of romance. Moira is the weak willed woman who’s “strength” only exists because the author says so, but is demonstrated in no meaningful way.

Moira unfortunately falls prey to the overbearing family of a one-night-stand, but rather than fight, she folds. I guess the moral of the story is that Happiness is a Choice, which is true and always a sound principle for a story- like in life. However, the author takes this idea of choices so far that Moira loses all character, and Nicholas becomes the cliche hero that Moira will now thank with blowies...

Nope. No thank you.

Since reading this book, posting the review on my blog, and now the cover has changed. This posting is part of a larger review article that I've posted here for the review only.

This was a cute an emotional read with a good plot about an arranged marriage. You have a favorite son who does no wrong, a son that can do nothing right, a controlling mother, a father who goes with the flow, a girl whose one night stand will change her life forever. What Alex want he got without any care to how it would affect anyone else leaving Nick to clean up his messes. This time his mother has gone too far demanding he marry his brother’s one night stand. When his mother sweetens the pot giving him what she has denied him the start up money for his own business he just couldn’t walk away. Moira isn’t given much choice in the matter what Ms. Hamilton wants she gets.

Nick is a very likeable character who has done well for his self even standing in his brothers shadow he has turned out well a son anyone could be proud of that is everyone but his mother. As you are taken farther into the book you will find the reason for this. Nick is just a normal guy doing the best he can with the short in of the stick.

Moira is doing what she think is best by telling the father of her baby about it. Being raised by her mother only she knows how it feels not to know your father and wants to do right by her child. Things do not go as planned when she is given no choice and forced in to marrying Nick.

Mr. Roelofs narration isn’t bad his character voices are pretty good. There are no background noises or any place where the volume is higher than other places. If a break was taken you could not tell. This was a pretty even tone audio with a little emotion. The narrator sounds like he is reading and robotic. He needs to lighten up a little, feel the emotion and become the character he is reading about to make this a smoother listen. If the characters are angry, excited, laughs show it in his voice. He shows very little emotion with most of the audio for the most part you know what the characters are feeling but the tone is not there to give it what it needs. I feel as he does more audios he will grow and get the feelings down. I have listen to other samples of this narrator where he does an outstanding job. This may have been an older audio where he was learning to get the feel of being a narrator. I do look forward to listening to more from him and watch as he grows in his narration.

There will be some characters you will love and others you won’t. If anyone likes his mother I would not want to meet them. His father is a sweet heart just lets his wife control everything. I hope Alex gets a handle on his troubles and things works out for him. I really didn’t care for him at all. It was a story of dealing with the cards life gives you making it a better hand along with trusting, caring, learning to love and give of yourself. It was a touching heartwarming read for the most part. I would have liked to have know how the mother took the move I am sure that didn’t go well along with a few other things I felt was missing. More information is need but it does have a great ending which will leave you smiling.

Audiobook - narration, Gary Roelofs, nice deep voice! Good production.

I liked this book, it was enjoyable to listen to, even though there were some characters and character actions that made me want to smack some people!

Moira's dumb fiancé calls off their engagement after deciding he's hot for one of her bridesmaids and Moira withdrawals from the dating scene, BUT, one night in Vegas, she meets hot and sexy Alex and proceeds to have a steamy one night stand (with a condom) that apparently didn't work!

So now she's pregnant. Moira herself having been raised by a single parent, decides she'll just have the baby, but she's recently met, got to know and started building a terrific relationship with her birth father and he convinces her that Alex has the right to know. She doesn't want anything from him, but she does believe he should know in case he wants to be a part of their child's life.

Then comes the crazy pants, mostly in the form of Alex's mom. She insists that Moira will Marry Alex's twin brother Nicholas (to save face and protect her political career from scandal) and sweetens the pot with the offer of start-up funds for the software company he dreams of one day starting.

Now we have the makings for a really sweet romance, as they set up house and start learning all the things they really have in common. She helps him with his business, including endearing herself to his staff, and he begins to fully embrace her pregnancy and sweetly cares for her throughout.

We also get to know more about his smarmy brother Alex, his pretty cool father, and put up with more antics from the mom from hell!

Overall, this is just a sweet, light, romance and I enjoyed it!

Moira and Nicholas Hamilton are forced to marry by Nick & his twin brother's controlling & domineering mother, Ella. Basically to save face since Ella's political career is centered around traditional family values and Alex is a spoiled drunken drug addicted big shot womanizing lawyer, who got Moira pregnant during a one night stand whilst fooling Moira into thinking he was single when in fact he was engaged, getting married only for status and financial enhancement.

Nick is offered the money for his dream business & to prevent Ella from using her power to take away her baby, they both reluctantly agree. Over time they fail in love.

Has erotica but puts story primarily. Good pace. Predictable plot but enjoyable.
The narrator has a nice voice but it's really not for this story and he doesn't emote like when it comes to a point where someone laughs, he doesn't do it

This book had an interesting premise. Nicholas Hamilton marries Moira after she gets pregnant with his twin brother's baby. His overbearing mother forced him to marry her so his brother Alex's political career would not be tainted with scandal. In return, Nicholas had his video game company funded. There is a huge rivalry between the brothers, and though Nicholas loves his brother, he cannot get over the fact that his new wife is just another of Alex's leftovers. Over time, Moira begins to integrate their lives, getting to know the employees of the video game company and staff, taking an interest in the things Nicholas is doing. When Moira is diagnosed with an incompetent cervix(after an altercation with brother Alex), Nicholas begins to see Moira is now his family and the baby is his little girl. A few twists and love wins. Very enjoyable story.

The narration was warm and friendly.

I was a bit hesitant about this book at first, I mean Nicholas, the male lead, marries the girl his twin brother, Alex, impregnates?

The story was written in multiple Points of Views which was an added bonus.

It was not as complicated as I had first thought it would be.

The relationship got off to a rocky start but eventually a love was slowly formed.

The narrator, Gary Roelofs did a good job. I think he would do well reading children's stories.

A Family for Nicholas is a sweet, heartwarming book. The characters are well-developed and likable. I enjoyed the story of Nicholas and Moira and the unexpected feelings they developed for each other. I will be looking for more books by author Jane B. Night. Gary Roelofs" narration was good for the male voices, but a little disappointing for the females.

A modern romance with some predictable situations. Quick to listen to when a person wants a bit of light listening.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

This book was a nice pleasant read with a simple enough story. It wasn't too long or too complicated just a lovely way to spend a few hours to escape.
