I taught English in South Korea for a decade to every level and type of student and I've taught every age from kindergarten kids to adults. You can find me at my website: ESL Activities.
These days, I do private tutoring in Vancouver and online teaching. In my spare time, you can usually find me outside playing tennis, biking, hiking or on the hunt for the most delicious kimchi I can find.
In case you were wondering what my academic qualifications are, I hold a Master of Arts in Psychology. During my time in Korea, I completed the CELTA and DELTA teacher certification programs.
This was a quick and effective book for busy teachers or teachers looking for a little spark of inspiration.
I recommend this for ESL teachers, especially those in high-school or adult settings. The games and activities are practical, easy to incorporate, and seem effective. I plan to use at least 5 of the ideas this semester in my advanced adult class. The author is a teacher in Korea so some of the activities focus mainly on teaching in Asia and won't necessarily do well with all classes, but the author points this out freely and offers ideas on how to adapt the activities.
Overall this was a helpful (and only 99 cents on Kindle!) purchase. I'm looking forward to checking out more of the author's books and ideas.
Teaching can be a very hard and frustrating job. I bought this book for my sister in law who teaches ESL classes and is always looking for a new approach. She carries this book with her all the time to her classes and her students really enjoy picking new games to play from it. She has learned many great techniques that are really improving her students language skills. I highly recommend this book for teachers who are looking to change up their daily routine with a new approach.
A great resource for helping you create a genuinely student- centered classroom in which students do 70 to 90% of the talking. Unlike some teacher manuals, this book contains realistic activities that can be tailored to any level. The author not only has impeccable academic credentials and impressive first-hand experience, but also conveys great sensitivity toward the struggles of ESOL learners. I will immediately be using some of these ideas in my classes.
This book could have been a valuable addition to my teaching library. However, I found it very difficult to use because it is hard to move between, mark, and return to games. Perhaps the paper edition is easier to use
