This is good starter or first book to read on Macular Degeneration. His tone is hopeful in this book. That can be important if your feeling discouraged. My only complaint about this book is that he goes on a few tangents or 'rabbit holes'. He does additional reading material and some web sites. He often repeats which can seem annoying until understand the reader with macular degeneration sometimes skips things.
