Student Name: Beyersdorf Carson Date Submitted: April 27 Book Title: Korea, The Forgotten War Lexile:

Personal Response: I personally liked the book because it gave me a sense of being in Korea at the time. It also gave me a very wide knowledge of Korea. The book sort of absorbs you, and I sometimes found myself lost in the book because of how interesting it is to me.

Book Summary: The book is mostly about the beginning and end of Korea, also known as the “Forgotten War” because many people began to lose interest in the war. In the beginning of the book, it tells how US soldiers went from being the conqueror's to the conquered when the Sovietssoviets armed the North Koreans with T-34’s. When the US finally developed and got their own tanks on Korean soil did the tides of war turn. In the beginning of the book, the Chinese entered and we were at a stalemate. It went on like that for the majority of the war until a ceasefire was instituted.

Recommendation: I would recommend it to people interested in war. It gives good detail. It was overall a great read.

A well-balanced, historical survey of Korea to the present. Early chapters succinctly depict a rich Korean heritage. In resisting absorption by their powerful neighbour, China, Koreans successfully established their own state and distinctive culture, language, and traditions. The latter chapters deal with events after 1945. Illustrations and map throughout.
