About the author

Stephen Kroll spoke at schools and conferences all over the world. He was married to the journalist, Kathleen Beckett, and they lived in New York City and an old carriage house in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. When he was not writing or traveling, he played a lot of tennis and walked around looking at everything.

For a book published in 1987, this one is surprisingly multi-cultural. A young white boy narrates the story of all the things he loves about Spring. In the playground flowers are blooming while children of different ethnicities play and interact. After lunch he and his friends help plant a garden. He celebrates Easter but around the same time attends a Passover Seder with his friend Judy. The illustrations appear to be done with colored pencil in a child-like way that complements the story. It's too long for me to use in toddler story time this week, but I enjoyed reading it and will keep it in mind for other uses.
