It is not often that I find a sweet romance where the romance is the central theme. Yes there were a couple of conflicts that vamped the tension and added a nice contrast to the steady pace. The title held multiple meanings which makes a nice bonus.
I could relate to Summer's reluctance to love a firefighter. I empathized with Riley and Zack. The heartache they felt was genuinely written. Aiden's strong determination was endearing and swoon worthy.
This isn't a deep novel. It's a sweet story of how two people had to trust in God and in each other.
It didn't end abruptly. It ended in a way that would make the reader set the book down, stare out the window, and sigh, contemplating the words she just read.
Another thing that drew me to this book was that the proceeds go to a charity called Food For The Poor. I've been on both sides of spectrum and it thrills me that someone would think about people and do something about it.
I encourage everyone who reads this review to purchase this book and make a difference. Not only would you help others, but you will gain a delightful read
Fairly simple writing, doesn't go too deep, once you get used to that, you will appreciate the main aspects of the story here. Different from the usual romance novel, with both the main players actually 'interested' in each other from the beginning - which at first made it seem a little simplistic. However as the story moves forward, Summers fear of dating someone with a 'risky career' kind of explain her hang ups. Ironically, and this was my biggest issue with the plot - even tho the gorgeous firefighter hero Aidan has the 'risky profession' Summer can't seem to get past, despite EVERYONE pointing out it will be ok, Summer is the one with the dangerous experiences! Um hello??!!!!! Cute story though, with just enough extra supporting characters to beef out the story, add something extra and make it interesting. Everyone needs a 'Dottie' for a neighbour!! This was my first read from this author and I would seek out more. Not too intense, enjoyable inspirational read.
I received this ARC from Pelican Books & Netgalley in return for my honest review.
-‘Lord, I know You have good plans for me. Forgive me for letting worry rule my life. Help me to make decisions based on faith instead of fear.’-
Summer is hesitant to allow herself to feel anything for her new neighbour when she finds out he is a firefighter. Her sister lost her police officer husband in the line of duty and, seeing what it did to her, she just can’t take the chance of falling for someone in a risky profession. Her heart just couldn’t take the loss. But what if Aiden is God’s choice for her? Is it worth the risk? When Aiden keeps rescuing her over and over, can she really keep avoiding him?
This is a sweet, clean, Christian romance. I really enjoyed it and recommend it.
I was given a copy of Summer's Flame through the publisher and their partnership with Netgalley in exchange for my honest review which is as follows:
Summer Cassel finds herself being the unofficial welcoming committee to Aiden Hawk she lives in a renovated 1930's Hotel transformed into a small but modern apartment complex.
There is no denying that Summer finds Aiden attractive but she is unsure she wants to get into a relationship.
Summer and Aiden have a serious of unusual encounters.
Summer is determined not to date anyone in a dangerous profession but Aiden is a firefighter.
Aiden seems to be at the right places at the right time rescuing Summer when she most needs it. Even saving her.
Will Summer break her own rules and go after what her wants? Will she dare date a firefighter?
I LOVE Wendy Davy's stories. And this one did not disappoint! And it's cool that all proceeds from this book are going to a charitable organization!!!!
The characters in the story are great. Aiden is a true hero. Zack is a great example of what teenagers can go through, but I enjoyed watching him work through his issues. And Summer worked through her issues of how do I live without him to I don't want to live another day without him.
