Old Palm City Mapp Road Improvements: Project Vision and History

The Old Palm City Town Center Project is an impressive community story that provides inspiration for similar projects across the country where communities can reclaim their thoroughfares by making the street safe, walkable and improve economic vitality. Successful projects require local government and community stakeholders to work together, collaborate in planning and decision making. This collaboration is managed by the Community Redevelopment Agency which provides for the planning, engineering, initial funding, and ultimately the leadership to build the project. The Old Palm City Mapp Road Improvements advance a community vision of a new urban main street while managing flooding and water quality within the existing right of way. The proposed roadway section for Mapp Road utilizes innovative stormwater management within a multi-way boulevard, which provides increased capacity, shared bike lanes, local access lanes or frontage road with shared space for parking, and sidewalks. This critical community project incorporates stormwater management features that will minimize polluted runoff to the St. Lucie River and estuary.
