Be Still

Rate this book
With a repetitive, rhythmic introduction of Psalm 46:10 (“Be still, and know that I am God!”), Be Still turns Bible memorization from a duty to a delight for children, using the author’s unique teaching strategy. This purposeful presentation of Scripture will help children memorize, understand, and absorb passages as the author presents this powerful verse one word at a time, teaching the meaning of each individual word before presenting the entire passage. Be Still builds a meaningful connection between God’s Word and a child’s life experiences, laying a foundation for a love and comprehension of Scripture. Parents and children will enjoy interacting together over the passage.

Religious books often fall into one of two categories: poorly illustrated with interesting text or nice illustrations but not reader friendly. _Be Still_ fits in neither category and is easily the best religious picture book I've read. Engaging and perfect for reading before bed to my preschooler.

I really liked the format of this book and how it emphasizes each word of the memory verse, one at a time, as it builds toward helping kids (and adults!) memorize the verse.

Be Still is a sweet Sit for a Bit book, based on Psalm 46:10. The verse is broken down into itty bits so young readers get the full meaning. The illustrations are full-page and are colorful and imaginative.

“Be still, and know that I am God!” Psalm 46:10

I love how the children depicted in the illustrations are multiracial. The boys and girls have various looks that any child can relate to. There are animals and bees, butterflies, and more, making it fun to search for the unique surprises on each page.

The purpose of this book is clear—to share God’s Word and instill his truths in children’s hearts and minds. All references to God are capitalized.

This hardback book, written by Kathryn O’Brien, and illustrated by Gillian Flint, is a sweet Christian storybook that makes a thoughtful gift for children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers. The message is clear to understand, and the characterizations are adorable.
