Bill Gunston was a British aviation and military author. He flew with Britain's Royal Air Force from 1945 to 1948, and after pilot training became a flying instructor. He spent most of his adult life doing research and writing on aircraft and aviation. He was the author of over 350 books and articles. His work included many books published by Salamander Books.
1) They had ugly sketches of Soviet aircraft from the 80s, because the western intel was lame.
2) Like all British authors, Bill is totally in love with local produce. You see that in Top Gear, too. Aston Martin is the most amazingest car in the world. Nothing drives as good as Mini - right. And when it comes to fighter jets, most planes had 2 pages in this book. Harrier had 8, and Tornado had a million. Two average planes with a total air combat tally of NOT A LOT, whereas F-15/16 and such, which had scored hundreds of air combat victories and seen some real action, just get their 'not bad for our former colony'. But surely not as good as Tornado.
