Conn is extremely thorough and well researched in this look at the expansion of the American city and its tussled relationship with the church. A vast amount of time is spent on how cities have grown and also what led to the expansion of suburbs. This is definitely an urban studies resource if researching in that field. He does include a number of churches and ministries and how they have ministered in transitional communities.
The evangelical Church and the American City, 1800s -1990s. Definitely feels out of date now, but very useful for understanding interaction between sociology, theology, movements, temperaments, etc. that shaped the evangelical church's relationship to the city.
Some really good stuff from the Conn man. This was both an historical and cultural overview of the Evangelical Church's relationship with the big bad City of Man. Plenty to think about here. Plenty to put into practice here, too.
