Nessa obra de 44 a.C., Cícero investiga a elaboração de um argumento analisando seu lugar (matriz que origina o argumento). Cícero cataloga topos e seus elementos. Não se trata de uma forma de pensar tópica, como em Aristóteles, mas sim de um catálogo de topos.
