Peter's red sweater protects him from everything except for the bully, Russ Deluca. During a class discussion about the color red, Russ humiliates by remarking that Peter wears his stupid read sweater every day! Peter decides to change up his style. His mother insists he wears his sweater. On the way to school his friend Felicia comes up with a great idea, to switch sweaters! Peter decides this is a superb idea. When the duo walk into class Russ is floored! This is such a cute story about friendship.
In terms of literacy I would use this book as a book club text for the very first week of school. This book has sight words that entering first and second graders should be familiar with. This book is GREAT for the craft of inferring. After each chapter students will answer a discussion question and they will draw a picture. The discussion questions go as follows: Chapter 1: Will Russ Deluca bully Peter tomorrow? Chapter 2: Will Peter wear his red sweater tomorrow? Chapter 3: Do you think Peter will stand up to the bully? Chapter 4: Do you think Peter will wear his sweater anymore? Chapter 5: How will Felicia help Peter? Chapter 6: Will Russ bully Peter in the future?
