I first read "Harbin's Ridge" in the early 1970's when I was a teenager. I've read the book 2 or 3 times since. It's always been one of my favorites. I only recently learned that the real author of this book is Janice Holt-Giles, the wife of Henry E. Giles.

I had read Henry Giles' Harbin's Ridge many years ago as a teenager. I enjoyed the book just as much this time. Henry and Janice (his wife) set many of their books in the hills of south central Kentucky and they sing of a time now past but not really. Their settings, their characters, and their stories ring true even today, and even if you have never seen those ridges and valleys.
