Bluebird is sick and no one can figure out what is wrong with him. Emily feels like her heart is being torn in two. If they can’t find out what he has then how can they treat him and make him better? And if he’s not well enough to compete in the third show of the Talent Scout series then Emily’s dreams of winning a sponsorship and competing in Europe will be crushed for good. But getting her pony better is all she cares about, even if it does mean sacrificing her career.

And Bluebird isn’t the only sick horse. There is a new foal at Fox Run and he’s not doing well either. Abandoned by his owner and shunned by his mother, the foal needs a nurse mare and fast if he’s going to make it.

But Emily isn't alone. When she befriends a girl at the vet clinic whose horse is in worse shape than Bluebird she might have to face her own fears, that sometimes horses don't make it. And life and death is a tough lesson for a teenage girl to learn when her horse is the most important thing in her life.

About the author

Claire Svendsen

Claire Svendsen was born and raised in England, which means she talks with a vaguely cool accent and drinks a lot of hot tea. Obsessed with horses almost before she could walk, Claire spent her summers dragging the old family typewriter into the garden where she would write books about a rich family giving her a horse. Though she would like you to think they were the masterpieces of a young prodigy, the truth is they never went much further than the first chapter and were awful.

Claire likes to think she can write a lot better now. She also finds writing this biography about herself in the third person both weird and alluring all at the same time. Claire now lives in Florida because she doesn't like cold weather and when she's not busy writing, you can find her hanging at the barn with her thoroughbred Merlin.

Stable Vices Review

It seems to me that this one is one of the better books in the series. Still a lot of underdeveloped ideas, but over all good enough to keep the storyline going.

I loved this book! It brought tears and laughter. I especially enjoyed Bandit and his attitude! I swear the big attitudes come from the tiny ponies!
