Power Shift Hunting the Bounty Hunter beneath Haunted Alaska Skies by Calinda B.
~3.5 Shifting Stars~

description

Power Shift: Hunting the Bounty Hunter beneath Haunted Alaska Skies is the first story feautured in the Paranormal Obsessions book. The Box Set starts off with the story of Chia and her quest to protect the shifters and humans in her small town. She is an enforcer and protector of her town. It should be a simple task and yet, when her position is compromised by an evil nemesis she is forced to rely on her vampire roomate, shifter best friend, and a very unlikely ally.

Hung is a bounty hunter who Chia is madly attracted to. Although they have shared a few connections throughout the years, they have never come to terms with the feelings they harbor for one another. Although Chia has been charged to capture (and possibly kill) Hung, she begins to see him through different eyes and possibly realize there might just be something there!

description

Overall, Power Shift was a good read. I felt like the secondary characters were extremely likable and the PRN elements were well developed and flowed naturally. The dialogue was smoothly constructed and the pacing was set at a steady rate with just enough action and mystery to keep me interested. What was slightly lacking for me was the under developed relationship aspect of the plot between Chia and Hung. I felt like it took slightly too long for these two to get together. I also would have liked more closure. The story had been building so intensely and then it felt like it ended rather abruptly. After reflecting on this read, I know I would like to check out more for this author.

Mating Urge by Michelle Howard
"You should have run, Ellie. I warned you. Now, you're mine."

description

Mating Urge is a steamy PRN read with a hot alpha shifter male and a spunky heroine!

Elliana Cage is running from the law. She is innocent and therefore desperate to get away! When she stumbles upon the Zanian IX, she becomes a stowaway. Instantly she finds herself in the room of Aran T'Kar and everything changes.

description

"She still waited for the special man who'd come into her life and want her. Ellie wanted to share a bond with a partner liker her parents and fill her home with laughter and happiness."

Aran is entering into the time of his muata. (Basically that means he is ready to meet his mate and mate!) When Elliana enters his room, he tries to send her away but his physical need to be with her overtakes his willpower. Ellie is overcome with emotions as this powerful man seems to want to overtake her! Ellie is a romantic and although she knows that there is something physical pulling them together, she can't help but hope there might be something more. Ellie is hesitant and yet, her draw to Aran is strong.

"I promise. I will make you feel good. You won't regret giving yourself to me."

When these two come together, it was SMOKING HOT! I could almost feel the steam radiating off of my kindle!

description

"Mine. All mine."

Of course, after the deed is done, Aran and Ellie are mated. Aran discovers who Ellie is and now he is bound to her. He must protect what is his.

Overall, Mating Urge was an outstanding read. The tempo was fast, the text was passionate, and I was instantly invested in both characters. Due to the situations these characters were in, the connection was everything "insta" (insta love and double insta lust)! And yet, I didn't mind one bit. The world Ms. Howard created was so realistic that I believed every word from that world. I felt completely immersed in the story and frankly, I was sad when it ended. I am so glad that I have discovered this author. I understand she has written more and I cannot wait to read it. PRN lovers will adore these characters and the witty writing!

My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton
"The sky right now is like your eyes. The deep dark sapphire of night glistening with stars."

description

My Blood Runs Blue is another winner for PRN lovers! There is a dash of action, vampires, some decent steam, and I can now say that I have experienced my first genuine PRN love triangle.

description

Kristin is a cop who loves her job. When the read begins, Kristin has been pulled into a murder investigation. While investigating the murder of a local girl, she experiences some supernatural feelings for a mysterious man named Julian. Additionally, there is another presence that is mysteriously drawing her attention.

description

"It didn't matter if it was right or wrong, I craved her. I wanted her, and I was going to take her."

Julian and Alex are both vampires. They have a twisted history when it comes to their desires for women (one woman in particular). Kristin inadvertently forces them both to face their past. While the plot thickens the questions begin to build, is this woman going to drive these two friends further apart or will she bring healing to them both? Will Kristin be able to catch the murdered and solve the case?

The push and pull between the two vampire men was angst ridden and full of passion. It was abundantly clear that both men felt broken and both men felt like Kristin was the only the thing that could heal their pain.

"This might be the last time I got to hold her, and I was going to take advantage of every second."

description

"I made such a horrible mistake. I know it. It was you that I should have been with. It was you that I really wanted."

Overall, My Blood Runs Blue was a very enjoyable read. I have been vague regarding the plot in order to avoid spoiling it for you. I am actually not a fan of love triangles and yet, I enjoyed Kristin, Alex, and Julian's story very much. The tempo of the read was nicely paced. The characters were well developed and the story of their past was quite intriguing. The story is told in multiple POV which aids the reader understand the depth of the dynamics between the three main characters. Although the beginning and middle of the story were well developed, I felt like the end was a bit rushed. Simply put, I would have liked more development between Kristin and the man that she chose. At first, I was hesitant of her choice because I wanted more details supporting that choice. (Additionally, I can't help but feel sorry for the other guy.) Still, I felt content with how the read ended. Ms. Eaton certainly has captured my attention with this series. I will definitely be reading more from her and I hope that "the other guy" gets his HEA soon!

Darkness & Light (Holloway Pack, #1) by J.A. Belfield
3.5 Dark and Light Stars

description

Darkness and Light is a PRN romance novel with elements of a modern day romance.

Jemma is a housewife living in a loveless marriage. She is constantly driven to please her husband and take care of his ever whim.

"I was a happy wife and provider of food and sex."

At first her "stepford wife" behavior felt akin to a dystopian lifestyle. I almost couldn't believe that a modern women would behave in such a manner. And yet, the timeline was in fact in the present and modern world. Jemma was just so naive and insecure. She does however find solace in her dreams. She dreams of a werewolf and a man named Sean.

description

"Fate and destiny go hand in hand."

At first glance it may seem that Jemma's husband isn't a bad guy but maybe "old fashioned", and yet he transforms into an abusive man. Jemma finally meets the man Sean that she has been dreaming of. The two become friends. When Jemma's husband discovers the relationship, Jemma's life is placed in danger. She escapes her abusive husband and runs to the arms of Sean. She moves in with Sean and his family. Is Sean the werewolf from her dreams? Is he her soulmate? Can she escape her abusive husband?

description

"We'll always have each other."

Overall, Darkness and Light has a great deal of potential. The plot is well crafted and the characters are extremely likable. Additionally, the romance between Jemma and Sean was quite tender. However enjoyable I found parts of the story, there were quite a few problematic elements for me to accept and it certainly hindered my ability to enjoy the read. I felt like the shifting between Jemma's dreams and the real world (in the book referred to as dark and light) were a bit disjointed. Additionally, there were several driving plot elements that didn't' coincide well together. Although the romance between Sean and Jemma was tender, at times he seemed no different from her abusive husband (overly protective, controlling, etc.). Jemma seemed to transform somewhat as a character and yet, she seemed to go straight from the frying pan into the fire. I wanted so badly for her to grow more as a character and find her own place in the world. There were moments in the read when the action picked up and I was engaged in the story but then things would slow down drastically and I felt like the read was just taking too long. Even with the problematic areas, I would certainly be willing to read other works by this author in the future.

Soul Avenged (Sons of Wrath, #1) by Keri Lake

~4.5 AVENGING STARS!!!!~

description

"I don't suppose the saying, 'Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all' means anything to you?"

Soul Avenged is a delicious blend of paranormal creatures, passion, romance, action, beautiful heroes, and one bad ass heroine! It is an addicting read that once it was started, I could not put it down!

description

Ayden is a Slayer. She is a crafted warrior who has the ability to take down evil with one swipe of her blade. She hunts her enemies, the Lycans, with a vengeance. She has allied herself with a broody bunch of "alpha male demons" who will protect her with their lives! She is a defector of an underground army of soldiers, the Alexi, led by her arch nemesis Wade. While hunting one night, she comes across an injured man. He has been infected by a Lycan bite and will transform into a Lycan in seven days. There is something different about this "Lamb". When Ayden touches him, she feels a surge of memories. In order to cling to the memories he has evoked, she brings him home with her to uncover the truth to her past.

description

"Ties, costly to someone like her, were best unmade."-Ayden

Kane is a doctor who is caught at the wrong place at the wrong time. Attacked by Lycans, he is left injured and his life is forever changed. Ayden, his captor, is a force that he cannot overcome. However hard her exterior seems to be, Kane sees beneath the wall of steel and discovers a broken girl longing for love. Can these two find solace in the storm and make a way to be together? Will Ayden have to kill him?

"I'm broken. And neither you nor anyone else can ever fix me again."-Ayden

description

In addition to the blooming romance between Ayden and Kane, the secondary character development kept me intrigued the entire read. Instead of being a distraction, I wanted more from the brothers and to discover their plight as well! Gavin, the leader of the brothers, has a history with Ayden and wants nothing more than to mate her and make her his. No matter how tender (and sexy) Gavin is with Ayden, it is unmistakeable that the two were never meant to be more than just friends. Gavin is the ultimate "alpha male" and a small part of me hoped that Ayden would make away with him. And yet, when Ayden and Kane come together there was no question in my mind that they were a perfect match for one another.

"She belongs to me."-Kane

description

Logan is the brother who brings the most humor to the read. He is big, broody, and brutal! With the way this read ended, I cannot wait to see what is in store for him next. Calix is the boy scout of the group. Although he tries to stay out of trouble, he seems to attract it wherever he turns. Zeke is the playboy of the bunch. Finally, and perhaps the most appealing to my ovaries, Zayne is a perfect blend of jock and goth. Tatted and pierced, he has been in mourning for loosing his mate. (Be still my heart....if only I could heal his pain!) This delectable band of brothers holds the promise of many more amazing heart stopping moments to come. Can we say, one click the entire series now? Yes! Yes, we can!

description

Overall, I simply cannot rave enough about Soul Avenged! I have been a huge fan of Keri Lake ever since I discovered her work. She is a skillful writer who paints every single picture (page to page) for her reader. Each moment is sequenced beat by beat. Every character is complex and developed down to the most minute detail. Additionally, the passionate moments between the sheets left me aching for more!

"Gentle and slow, he brushed his opened mouth across hers. Her breaths, so warm, hit his face in a pant. He closed the small space and took her fully. So soft, her lips against his. His body stirred with the kiss, becoming restless, wanting more."

This is by far a perfect example of why I read PRN and LOVE IT! When an author can transport me to another world, offer a beautiful romance story, and insert heart pumping action throughout, I become one with my kindle and there is just nothing better in the whole wide world! My only complaint is that I can't jump directly into the next book right now! But have no fear, my kindle will be stocked full with Keri Lake! Don't miss out on this gem! If you like PRN, action, passion, and romance, this is the read for you!

"I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. The opinion of this review is mine and mine alone."

1. "Power Shift" by Calinda B: I love Calinda B. She never fails to entertain me. The main characters are loveable and the bad guys are really bad. There were some serious moments but there were many laugh out louds and chuckles too. When Calinda releases book 2 in this series, I'll be the first in line to buy it.

2. "Mating Urge" by Michelle Howard: Hot. Alien. Cat shifter. Protector. What more could a girl want? Aran unwittingly mates Ellie at their first meeting. Ellie is a stowaway fugitive. Aran acts as her protector and helps to clear her name. Michelle is a "new to me" author. I will definitely be looking up more of her books.

3. "My Blood Runs Blue" by Stacy Eaton: I'm not normally a fan of vampire stories, but I really enjoyed this one. The love triangle was scorching hot. I would be hard pressed to choose between the two heroes.
The only thing I really didn't like was a scene in which the heroine (a police officer) had just left the bar after having two drinks, and she drove home. As an officer of the law, she should be setting a good example for others.
Over all, I give it 4 stars.

I will add to this review as I finish reading each story.

*I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. The opinion of this review is mine and mine alone.*

Overall, I'm thinking more like 4.5 Stars.

Power Shift 4* - A great beginning to the set, full of paranormal beings and supernatural events. Well written with likeable characters. I do wish we'd learned a bit more about the magic and what abilities Chia might really have. A 2nd book would be even better!

My Blood Runs Blue 4* - I'm not a fan of vamps, but this little love triange changed things up a bit with the rules and regulations for the blood sucking beings.

I'll be honest - I was kinda disappointed with who Kristin ends up with, but it is what is it! Another well written story worth the read.

Darkness & Light - 5* (The following is copied from my original review back in 2011. I've re-read this title twice since then and wasn't disappointed!)

This was my second time reading D&L and let me tell you - I thought the first time through deserved 5 stars. Much better this time. I knew to expect (which bothered me last time) the British English, so it flowed with a nice, fresh flavor in wording. The language is distinctive & different since most authors I’ve found anyway, tend toward American English regardless of where they live.
But I digress. Onto the goodies.

Yummies: Everything. Seriously. Characters, plot, tension, climactic ending - love, hot men, the steamy … oh yeah. Ms. Belfield knows how to put a story together. There was nothing for me to nitpick.
Believability? No issues. Imagine that! ON the believability factor though - the character of Jem’s husband, Peter, hit a little close to home for me. Won’t say much more than that, but from someone who knows, Jem’s responses, thoughts, & emotions toward that arsehole are spot on. Completely believable.
To see Jem’s transformation, to see her come to life is very refreshing. I could have been reading about myself. Without the werewolf part, of course. ;)

Yuckies: Um … none? Some might find scenes a little violent, but let’s face it folks - animals are animals. They protect their own. Other’s might cringe, but I have to admit I was like ‘Hell yeah!’ as blood splattered. Yup. I’m a farm girl who grew up with three brothers & guns. Bring it on.

Recommend: Absolutely. Even if you’re not a PNR fan the beautiful transformation of a wounded, hindered life is perfectly portrayed. Perfectly. Trust me - I would know.

Laurel Heights 5* - Definitely a winner. Intrigue, mystery, paranormal activity, and some heated attraction - this one has it all! Believable, tortured souls for characters and a supporting cast that does exactly as needed to wrap things up with a cute little bow makes for one great read.

Eternal Night 5* - Another one of my favs. I'm a sucker for a good sci-fi, and it's been awhile since I've found one. Again with the vamps, but this time they're the good guys fighting to save humanity in a post apocalyptic world.

Upon finishing, I immediately went to GR to find if there was a sequel because I was dying for more! I would have bought the next title without hesitation.

Unbelievable world building, characters, creatures - I don't have one negative thing to say about this title.

Rock Solid 3* - My least fav of the 7 I read. While insta love is do-able in paranormal, the ease with which Lexa believes in magic and its touch was way too quick for me. This was also the most erotic of the titles, so much so that I feel it belongs in an antho of short erotic stories rather than a paranormal set.

Definitely packed a lot of panty-melting heat if that's your thing though!

Soul Avenged 5* - (Again, pasting from original review I wrote back in 2013. Also have read this one more than once!)

Forget the yums & yucks. I'm going to ramble. BUT ... um ... where to start?

Wow. Holy Craptastic Batman. Ms. Lake has IT.

I.T. folks - the goods to write one hell of a story, sweep you up in the rush, and leave you panting for more. Few books make me rave. Few books go back on my to-read list the moment I finish it. But Soul Avenged? Oh, yes.

Why?

Characters - flawed, full of emotional turmoil, evil yet with a spark of goodness. And not just the MCs. ALL the Sons of Wrath, aka demons for hire. You WANT them to win. Long for it. Riding their horrific story to a completion that comes too quick. Yes, Soul Avenged is a long book, but not long enough. I want more. Now.

No. Scratch that.

Yesterday.

The world Ms. Lake created, the supernatural amidst a ravaged, slummed Detroit, is vivid. I saw the images she painted. Tasted the stench of those slums. Reading her filtered-in descriptions and imagery was a total delight to the senses. Fulfilling.

And to top all the excellence of this dark story, there is some steamy. I mean STEAMY. Like ouch! So many heated scenes read the same IMO. Read one romance, you've read them all. Soul Avenged, however, is so emotionally in depth within the characters' minds, that these scenes are almost like an experience, not just words on paper. Er, kindle.

Gotta go back to the characters for a minute. I think we'll be seeing a LOT of these Sons of Wrath in the future. *fingers crossed* The supporting cast of this first book is incredible, so non-cliche, so passionate as individuals. This is the kind of book you wish you'd picked up years after release, fell in love with, and devoured the next five or six within a single week, skipping meals, losing sleep - all for a bunch of demons for hire. Ones who will be with you LONG after you've finished their stories.

Yes. This book has IT.

I forsee some amazing things in Ms. Lake's future. She just needs to get writing because I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED the next book.

I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. The opinion of this review is mine and mine alone.

The whole reason I agreed to review this was because of JA Belfield's Darkness and Light. And Keri Lake's Soul Avenged. These two ladies are fabulous writers and I absolutely love everything they write. The added bonus was ALL the other stories were really good too. I was really surprised to find I enjoyed each one. Reviews are in the order I read them.

Darkness and Light 5*
Jem is a lonely housewife stuck in a rut with her overbearing, jerk of a husband, Peter. She's been having dreams of wolves and a some gorgeous hunk named Sean for quite awhile. When dreams become reality, destiny takes over.

I read this book a few years ago when it was originally published and absolutely loved it. When I heard about it being re-released, I decided to read it again. I can't believe how much better it was the second time around. I loved seeing how Jem changes throughout this story, from a door mat to a tough little spit fire. Sean was just dreamy (and steamy) from the start.

I really enjoyed seeing Jem's first impressions of the other pack members like Ethan and Josh. Seeing that I’ve read all the Holloway pack stories that are currently published, going back to read those first impressions again was rejuvenating. Unfortunately, now I'll probably have to read them all over again now. Oh, the torture!

Soul Avenged 5*
If you like the Black Dagger Brotherhood, this will be right up your alley! The Wrath brothers seem all tough on the outside, but those gorgeous brothers are all just looking for the right woman to eventually tame them. They just have to admit it first. This book introduces you to the brothers but mainly focuses on Ayden, a “client” of theirs and her new “pet” Kane. Everyone in the house wants to hate the Halfling Kane (lycan in transition) but they have hard time with disliking this honest, funny, good looking, nice guy.

Power Shift 4*
Chia Petit, is the local sheriff but finds trouble often, from ghosts flying around her head to bounty hunters and shifter troubles.
Hung Durand -above said shifter bounty hunter that is just too sexy for his own good
Cecil- cute, sexy, comic relief, husky shifter
D'Raynged- Vampire roommate with an affinity for duct tape

Chia is a strong female character but not too strong to take help from her friends, eventually. Enjoyable read with an interesting story line and an ending. (Not a buy the next book to find out how it ends -although it is set up where the story could continue later)

Mating Urge 4*
This was starts out quick and gets steamy fast. Elli ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time or rather the right place at the right time. She finds herself quickly mated to Aran and all that entails.

Rock Solid 3*
Ghosts, curses and LOTS of sex.
Jobs end up taking both, Jake and Lexa to a haunted Bordello. Both characters are in a bit of a dry-spell at the time but together will get caught up in a ghost induced flood! You've heard of love at first sight, this is love at first touch.

My Blood Runs Blue. 4*
The blurb on this one didn't do it justice. I almost didn't read this one because of the police woman part and its starts out kind of slow. (Turns out the author is a cop, makes perfect sense!) It is told from multiple points of view which confused me at first. After you realize that, it made more sense. It also means you will read the same scene twice in a row from both perspectives, which can be a bit repetitive.
All in all , I did like the story. Kristen can't decide between the two guys and I was surprised by how it ended
I like how descriptions of Callisto helped you understand Kristen better and vice versa.

Calm Assurance 4*

Malina finds trouble wherever it is but doesn't understand why. All the pieces fall into place when she meets Asriel the winged hottie.

Laurel heights 3*
Haunted houses, ghosts and shocking pasts keep you guessing in this one. Had a few surprises at the end I wasn’t expecting. This is more of a mystery with a bit of sexual tension/romance. Very "clean".

Eternal night 4*
Little slow in the beginning but a really good unique story line. I like Ashra and Jaden. Both are good strong characters. Descriptions of the dome city would make a great movie. A complete story in itself but I hope to hear about more of these characters in their own stories.

Read 9/9

Over 2000 pages

I really enjoyed this anthology. There were some hits and some misses for me but overall I am very happy I read it. The $.99 price tag for this is a steal. All the stories were well written and there was a nice variety of the supernatural. Whether you like demons, vampires, ghosts, science fictions, or shifters you will fall in love with this collection of paranormal stories. One of the best things about this anthology was that I was introduced to several new to me authors. I cannot wait to explore the rest of their works. The following are my star ratings, tags, number of pages and brief reviews of what I thought of each of the stories.

Power Shift: Hunting the Bounty Hunter beneath Haunted Alaska Skies by Calinda B
2 stars
217 pages
tags: humor/ghosts/vampires/shifters/magic/fae
I couldn't get into this book for some reason. There's nothing in particular that I didn't like. It just couldn't hold my attention. This book would be good for someone looking for a light hearted humorous read with a large variety of the supernatural.

Mating Urge by Michelle Howard
4 stars
83 pages
tags: science fiction/shifters/aliens/space
This was a great hot quick read. It grabbed my full attention right from the beginning. My only complaint was the ending was rushed.

My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton
3 stars
210 pages
tags: vampires/cop/military/mystery/suspense
This was a good read. It keep me on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns. I was never sure what was going to happen next. I really liked the different take on vampires, half-breeds and mates.

Darkness & Light by J.A. Belfield
2 stars

I'm sad to say that unlike most people I didn't care for this book. The heroine ruined the book for me. She definitely fell into the 'too stupid to live' category. With every idiotic decision she made I wanted to reached into my kindle and slap her. There were several times that I almost DNF this book just because of her. The only reason I kept going was for the side characters. I really liked several of them and may even consider giving this series another chance to learn more about them.

This was a great start to a series. The author did a great job with the world building and the introduction of the Nephilims. I loved all the characters. This was an exciting read and I really hope the author continues this series.

I really love a great ghost story. This book freaked me out enough that I felt the urge to sleep with the light on. The mystery and suspense that this book contained was off the chart. I was in the dark about what was going on as much as Laurel was.

I'll admit that I wasn't expecting much from this book after reading the blurb, but I was so wrong to think that. I absolutely loved this book. The world building, the characters, the storyline were all amazing. The twists is the book had me guessing up until the very end. This was an action packed page turner. I'm definitely going to read more books from this author.

I really enjoyed the concept behind this book. Who wouldn't love to read about horny matchmaking ghosts. This was a very hot steamy read with a little bit of sweetness mixed in. I'm looking forward to going back and reading the first two books in the series.

This is an array of paranormal tales designed to appeal to fans of paranormal romance. With a variety of authors contributing to this selection, readers are certain to find tales for any palette.

Calinda B wrote Power Shift, set in Charming, Alaska. This is a rollicking tale involving the two primary characters of Chia Petit and Hung Durand. Calinda B is always amazing and continues to demonstrate remarkable writing skill here. She combines humor, magic, and romance in a story that is thrilling, enchanting, and furiously paced. If you haven’t yet read Calinda B, Power Shift is a great story to taste her power. 4*

Mating Urge, by Michelle Howard, is the second book in the set. This is a science fiction story involving a stowaway situation on an alien space ship. Michelle Howard wrote a lovely and passionate tale about a male alien in “heat” (my term). I loved that the author had the male experience the mating urge rather than the female. This was a very nice turnabout on what can be an oft-repeated scenario. 4*

My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton was a story of friendship, betrayal, redemption, and love that lasts throughout time. This was a story of vampires – not the typical vampires of late night television, or traditional novels. Stacy Eaton’s vampires were a bit different. While the story had several worthy elements, I found that it was mostly predictable. 3*

Darkness and Light by J.A. Belfield told of a woman who lived through a horribly abusive marriage. At night, she’d dream strange dreams and awaken screaming a man’s name in her mind. This woman’s bravery and rediscovery of self made a wonderful love story. Belfield has an interesting writing style and has created a series that is worth following. 4*

Calm Assurance, by Dariel Raye, is a story about the Nephilim and their guarding of humans. This is a love story, involving fated mates. While the writing was acceptable, the characters weren’t well-developed; they seemed stiff and always remained two-dimensional, never coming to life. Also, since their romance seemed based entirely on the physical, it quickly became tedious. 3*

Laurel Heights by Denise Moncrief is a kind of ghost story that is also a second chance for two less-than-perfect people. Laurel Standridge inherited a house from an aunt she didn’t even know; Chase Peterson is doing a favor for a half-brother who deserves nothing. The house is known to be haunted, or so the town residents whisper to one another, and to anyone else who’ll listen. While the writing in this tale isn’t particularly flawed, the story just doesn’t seem to hit the right notes for some reason. 3*

Eternal Night by Jade Kerrion is an amazing post-apocalyptic story detailing the survival of humans, vampires, and Icrathari – powerful immortal creatures who now rule the world. The queen of the primary domed city in this world now rules alone, always alone, since her mate died many, many years ago. Her domed city, Aeternae Noctis is one of eternal night. When she discovers that her mate has been reborn, she is ecstatic, though others of her breed, the Icrathari, are less so, since he is human, and a lesser species. He has also sworn to care for his little sister and she is the child prophesied to bring light to Aeternae Noctis. Jade Kerrion has beautiful world-building skills. Her writing is gorgeous, her characters are wondrous, and the plot is multi-dimensional. This is an absolutely fantastic story. 5*

Rock Solid, by Bonnie Edwards, is a wonderfully creative tale about a Victorian mansion with a mind of its own. This mansion, complete with a resident matchmaking ghost, loves to call people at very odd hours of the early morning to schedule appointments for work appraisals. These appraisals are actually opportunities for two people from different parts of the world to meet one another. The house also heightens sexual desire in those on its premises. This was a fun and fanciful tale that was very well-written. 4*

Soul Avenged, by Keri Lake, provides a fresh take on the world of lycans. Keri Lake has created a world that is thrilling, dangerous, and multilayered. Her heroines and heroes are strong and savvy, yet also unpredictable. Lake also provides a very helpful glossary of terms (other authors should take note and follow suit) to aid readers in quickly navigating her world. 4*

I was provided a copy of this boxed set by Keri Lake for review purposes. All opinions expressed within this review are my own.

Power Shift
This is such a fun story. It's a little different than I normally read. Chia is kinda like a mayor of the Alaskan town, except she goes between the human citizens and supernatural citizens. And everyone wants Hung- the bounty hunter- caught and removed. So Chia needs to not only protect her city, run it smooth, catch the bounty hunter- or lose her job and everything she has worked for. She's in a tough spot. And on top of that, there's others from towns over who want her job, her power, her city. Chia loves her town and she wants everyone to be happy but she doesn't want to kill the one guy who stirs everything in her.

There's shifters and magic and lore in all kinds of fun going on. There's a nice mystery plot thrown into that. And the romance is of course steamy good. And I loved the side characters. The pack of dogs, including the shifters- they were awesome. Oh and er hilarious vamper roommate just made me smile. And in the mean time, Chia is learning Hung is not just some evil bounty hunter and she is more than just the manager of the town. There's always more than meets the eye. And she learns who her friends are, who really loves the town, and what's really at stake. It's a great start to this whole set of awesome books. :) 4.5 PAWS!!!

Mating Urge

I really really liked this one! I seriously will now be reading all of the goodness from this author. Seriously. This is one of the shorter stories but it was still awesome. A girl is desperate to flee her powerful evil step father jump on board a space ship to flee. Except she doesn't find an empty cubby to hide. She lands in the room of the Chief of security's room, and he's in full bloom of his muata- his mating urge. Oh boy!

So normally, space is boring to me. BUT... this is space- with SHIFTERS!! It was awesome. Ellie is human. Aran is a cat shifter. Of course each planet and shifter has their own names and cultures and ways of life. I can't wait to learn more about that. But anyways. Aran knew it was going to be bad. He was supposed to sedate himself when he boarded the ship. It was supposed to be a basic self imposed coma. But he never got that far. He walked into his room, came out of the shower and found her. Ellie was in his room. And he couldn't help it. She couldn't either. Together, can they not only defy odds, but keep her self from her step dad and the powers that be.

This is basically the beginning of a new series if I am understanding correctly. The next book of the series focuses on some of the side characters you meet her. And though we only get a short site of Ellie and Aran, I have a feeling we will be seeing them again. We met some of Aran's co-workers and friends, and we meet some of the people Ellie trusted and then we meet some more hot guys! LOL There's a lot left open for the next book, like meeting the parents, the mating thing, pregnancy, learning new cultures. So, I have a feeling that this is just a little bite :) Overall, I still say that I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the future and I'm so glad this one was included. Because now I wanna go and read this author's other works! I loved this one and I need more ASAP!!! :) 5 PAWS!

My Blood Runs Blue

Oh sometimes you have to just give in and like the vamper... I don't like many vampires. Ever. I have a few exceptions. Yeah, this one made the cut hahahaha oh plus a weird little twist on reincarnation, kinda, two hot guys in love with the same woman, and a strong lady who's a cop, and she won't back down from it. All in the background, it started with Kristin being lead investigator for a slew of serial killings on mothers and daughters. So when the daughter of some townsfolk she knows is murdered, she is the one to deliver the news. This is where everything goes wonky. She meets Julian. Then Alex. Then finds out what is really going on. It's crazy. Oh and I love her and her doggie partner. Seriously, Garda is awesome and I think she is my favorite lady for remembering her fur baby!!

Kristin is a really good cop. Her husband died and she has kind of thrown herself into her career. But things are not always supposed to be that way, because fate threw a rope to her. Or well two ropes. LOL And It's really hard to pick one over the other with Alex and Julien, because to be fair, they loved the same woman, Calista. But Kristin isn't exactly Calista. So it's not fair to put her there either. And sometimes men are just stubborn anyways. LOL I kinda liked seeing their individual reaction when they each first met her. And they do both want the same thing, to kill the serial killer. And with that said, I will not ruin the story for you. I will not tell you which team I am on. I will not tell you how hot they are. I will not tell you that I loved the cop crime scene mystery solving... Oh wait I will tell you that. HAHAHA I thought the writing especially of that part was so damn good. You can tell the author did her research and dotted her i's. I was impressed. I am still impressed I liked a vamper. HAHA too bad there's no wolfies around right. Oh and to make it worse, I absolitely loved Gabe, so maybe the vampires are making a come back. LOL

This really was a great story. I can wait to see what's going to happen in book two and I look forward to getting my hands on it soon :) 4.5 PAWS!

Darkness & Light

I am totally biased to this one. This story and this author is the whole reason I read this book. LOL I am of course on her street team and a stalker, but in a good way, because this whole series of PHENOMENAL!!! :) I had to reread it for this one because there's just so many good things going on here! Besides, Sean and Jem are just great!

OK, so I had heard some great things about this book as well, so I decided to buy it and jump on this band wagon as well. Boy this is a good one. Jem is in a TERRIBLE marriage, and Lord forgive me, but I would have killed him in his sleep! But, she's always had these dreams of wolves, and this one in particular, Sean, and then things get really real when she actually meets him!! This one has werewolves, witches, prophecies, awesome good guys, scary bad guys, and a seriously nutty husband, with fantastic human friends!! :) all around awesome right!! :)

I liked how this one plays out, as it's written in a slow pace, but the story is never slow, and the characters grow, and love, and live, and become who they are supposed to be. It's a beautiful story, with some terrible moments, and some life changing events, but a true fairy tale with bite! LOL

I know most people wouldn't make some of the stupid choices Jem makes, sometimes she is so naive, but some people make those exact mistakrs in real life, so it's so believable! I can't wait to read more of this series!! :)

Calm Assurance

I normally don't do angel books either, they go with the vamper section, but again, this set of stories has hit all the exceptions to my rules. LOL Even though it's usually predictable, it really wasn't. This girl was like bad luck on top of bad luck. She made some of her messes but some she just couldn't catch a break. And you know, there's always a hawt guy around the corner at a pet shop hahah I shouldn't joke.

Malina is the black sheep in her family, all she wanted was to do something good, right. She wanted to take her grandmother out of the nursing home. Since her parents were murdered, her brothers rely on her as well, so she was in a predicament. She recently got a job through her brother, basically he called in many favors for this job for her. She an her friend got an apartment. She rescued a puppy. LOL See, she's trying to be good. Until she meets Asriel. He's freaking amazing, at least to her, but she has no idea what's really in store here.

Asriel takes initiative and gets Malina's firm to give her his whole contact file. The begin not just a professional relationship but a romantic one, intensely, and it goes from there. He cared for her when she had an accident. He needs to be with her. She seems to want to be with him. And they will do a lot to be together. But there's some seriously bad things around them, after them.

The writing was well done. The suspense kept me on my toes. I was surprised a few times as well. So with that said, I look forward to the next book to see what's going to happen now! 4.5 PAWS!!

Laurel Heights
I'm gunna call this one paranormal suspense. Laurel inherited a haunted old house from an Aunt that she didn't know exsisted. Laurel is not in a happy place. Coming from an abusive, almost lethal, relationship, she just wants to escape. She is having some troubles acclimating. Oh and there's a really hot handy man that comes with the old house :) Oh and cops that are like supernatural hunters. And some not so happy Spirits. Laurel is having some troubles alright :) With extra suspense added to keep you on your toes on the side of romance, this one can appeal to several genre readers.

So with Laurel trying to figure things out, and someone is killed near her home she is starting to freak. Is it the haunted house or is it her ex putting a hit out on her. And well, it was just awesome because the author added every creep factor. I will say, I got chills. Every little noise, creek, shadow, it made me wanna be scared. :) And though I don't do insta love, it was well written here. And I must say, there was definitely some twists, and I did NOT see that coming with the revelations. I look forward to seeing where this will go in the future :) 4.5 PAWS!!
Eternal Night
This is a good one. I definitely enjoyed this one out of the set! It's futuristic. And the City of Eternal Night, where humans are terrorized by the vampires and Icrathari. On the full moon- no, there's no wolfies here either- vampires cull the herd, yes the humans. They take kids to their place of scariness and the Icrathari in control. Ickies- yes I called them that because I give everything nick names- are kinda like vamps but they have these freaking awesome wings. I want some.

Jaden is human. And he kills two vampires on the full moon. He is then captured and taken to the evil crazy place. I keep forgetting the name, and I'm not sure how to pronounce it *giggle* He is supposed to be the reincarnation of this really important Icky warrior that was assassinated forever ago... He is the love of the queen Ashra- the Icky leader. Yes it sounds so bad to say Icky- but sometimes my brain works in mysterious ways. LOL But Jaden will stop at nothing to protect his 5 year old half sister, Khiarra. Oh and she's also supposed to be the one who will stop all the terrors going on around town.

This story is well written. You can't hate Ashra, you get her side, but you'll love Jaden, you get his side too. This double POV is described as Aeternae Noctis (thank you kindle for all those highlight buttons), which each side is the human and the Night Terror. I won't lie, this is really cool concept when it's explained, and this book definitely had me turning the pages quickly to figure out who was what, and what happened, and who dies, and yeah, I really liked this one too.
I really can't wait to see where this one is going to go from here. If it goes anywhere. I hope it does. This world is fascinating and major props for the author's seriously good imagination! 5 PAWS!!

Rock Solid

There's a very erotic place, Perdition House, where spirits of the place enhance what's between two people. It used to be a bordello. The spirits of the girls there stay on to fulfill their dreams... and sometimes yours. So when Jake, a carpenter takes a call in the middle of the night to fix some things there, he doesn't understand why, but he goes. He needs to. Flies across the country to get there. He meets Lexa there, and sparks fly. Lexa is the lanscaper in the area and she lives near. She gets the same call as Jake, and she goes. She knows some of the secrets and rumors- her grandparents being one of those couples.

With all of this flying around, Jake and Lexa come to understand just how much power the spirits can have. And Belle, the owner helps keep them there to finish their jobs while the spirits work their magic. :) It's kinda creepy and kind cool all at the same time. This one is more in the erotic genre for me, instead of just paranormal romance, but it's still ok. I was such a sweet story. The spirits and the hauntings, and the weird way things are. And is it just the magic of the house and spirits, or is it really real between Jake and Lexa? I enjoyed this one, and though it maybe wasn't my favorite of the set, it was a great addition to it. I would still recommend it, especially if you are looking for a heart warming erotic, sensual, steamy romance! Yeah, it's a good one!

Soul Avenged

Here's a little secret. I have been dying to read this book. I made myself read it last because I knew- just knew- it was be the epicness... other than Darkness and Light. To be fair, I already know how awesome Ms Belfield is. I was NOT AWARE how awesome Ms Lake is... Oh yeah, I have a new author to stalk LOL and I'm all a flutter because this book is just the first of the series. Oh, and I am also completely obsessed with the Underworld movie franchise and boy oh boy this may be even better. I can't believe I said that :) Dear bank account... Please find a way for me to purchase quickly hahahaha I like dark, gritty, in your face, mind blowing goodness-- umm, this book is all that and more. ok now, let's get to the low down dirty awesome sauce.

Ayden is totally kick ass. She is seriously hard core, but she is also a little broken. Ayden is hanging out with a house full of demons, umm hawt demons. Oh, and they are all awesome. But there's some crazy cool world building and lore going into it. With Ayden being Alexi- this means she was bitten by a lycan but not turned because of something in her blood. She developed some of their good traits- strength, speed- with out the bad- mindless killing sprees. And Lycans can be shapeshifters of other sort, but usually still wolfish- now you know I love me some wolves so I was a little heartbroken here. And with the house of demons part, she went to stay with the Sons of Wrath. There are seven brothers who are vengeance demons. BUT not all lycans are bad- there's a hawt one too!

I know I said it already but there is some seriously awesome world building. It takes a bit of reading through confusion to learn everything but it's not bad. There's multiple POVs so you can keep up with them all and the supernatural elements are so different than you normally see from a shapeshifter or a demon. I won't lie... I am in serious lust for this book because it's just that awesome. And it is well placed with this box set because now people who would normally shy away from the description will come upon it at the end of this book and then they will fall in love! LOL Ok, maybe not as extreme as me, but still. I'm all about promotion here! With that said, I WILL BE READING this whole series, and I will stalk for upcoming books LOL And I will also be checking out her other books too.
Surprise surprise a seriously high fiving 5 PAWS!!!

I received an advanced copy of this box set in exchange for an honest review. The opinion of this review is mine and mine alone.

A box set of nine paranormal romances – kindle edition.
When this opportunity came up I jumped at the chance. It contains two of my favourite authors and when I read the blurb I couldn’t resist.

It contains all my favourites such as shapeshifters, ghosts, vampires, werewolves and even a Nephilim!

I’m still working my way through this box set but it’s such a great price at £0.99 (UK Kindle) I just wanted to say... what you waiting for.... go get it!

There’s something for everyone in this set and a great introduction to some of the best authors out there in the field.

Power Shift - Calinda B.
This is the first book I have read from this author and it won’t be my last! I really liked Chia, she’s a great character and I’ve enjoyed getting to know her and the others in this book. Driven by rules and looking out for others, she’s drawn to the bounty hunter Hung Durand – left with no option, she has to break her own rules.

Darkness & Light - J.A. Belfield
If you’ve not yet read a book by J.A. Belfield – this is where to start. Go immerse yourself in the lives of Jem, Sean and the Holloway Pack. If you love werewolves and the supernatural then this series is for you. Follow Jem as her dreams become reality, as she finds herself drawn into a world where fate and destiny go hand in hand. Can Sean help her to accept her past in order to save her future? Sean is adorable and the rest of the Holloway boys will not disappoint. Well done Mrs Belfield - a great start to the series that just leaves you wanting more!

Soul Avenged - Keri Lake
I received this book as a gift and had sat on it for a while – I wasn’t sure about the move away from my normal kind of Lycan or Wolf themes. This was a whole new territory for me and I have to admit I wasn’t sure. Let’s just say I’m gutted – why did I wait so long try this? What a mistake I made there! Well let’s just say I’m hooked, to my surprise I really enjoyed ‘The Fallen’ and wanted to see where ‘Soul Avenged’ and the series would take me. My thanks now go to Keri Lake. You have given me a whole load of demon brothers to get to know, each with their individual personalities. I’m not going to say much more about them, you’ll just have to go read and see what I am talking about. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book.

Still to read / reviews to follow:
Mating Urge - Michelle Howard
My Blood Runs Blue - Stacy Eaton
Calm Assurance - Dariel Raye
Laurel Heights - Denise Moncrief

My Blood Runs Blue: This was my very first vampire book, EVER! and I'm totally in love with it. I didn't know it was possible to make a paranormal book sooo interesting!! The love triangle in this book was beyond emotional. Kristen is a cop trying to investigate the murder of a local young woman. Little does she know thus case is bout to change her life forever, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. She's always had very life like dreams, kind of like deja vu. And she's always felt like something I'm her life was missing. Friendships are tested, again. Love blossoms and re-emerges. I couldn't get enough. This is the first of two books, you don't necessarily have to read the second book, but you WILL want to. Stacy is a remarkable woman, and author. I was leary of reading a vampire book, but since she's one of my all time favorite authors I knew I had to give it a chance. I am so glad I gave this book the chance it deserved. Like all her other books, I didn't want to put it down. I was so absorbed in the words I didn't want it to end. Even if you don't like paranormal this love story still needs to be heard.

The collection of stories was very hit or miss for me.

Power Shift by Calinda B just could not hold my attention and I never could get into it - I give it 2 stars.

Mating Urge by Michelle Howard - I love this author and even though this story was a bit more racy than I usually read, the characters and storyline were engaging enough that I read it all the way through and enjoyed it - I give it 4 stars even not being a fan of racy :).

My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton was a new author for me and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. I really felt for the characters and I give this story 3 stars.

Darkness & Light by J.A. Belfield was an interesting story, but I felt that the form was too short to tackle such a complex storyline and got a bit lost in what was going on and trying to figure it all out.

The rest will be evaluated as soon as I finish them.

A great anthology if you love Paranormal Romances of all kinds. A great way to read authors you love and discover ones you may not know. There were definitely some stories that I liked more than others, but that's the beauty of an anthology - so many to pick and choose from :)

Power Shift - Calinda B.
Rule abiding town manager Chia Petit has two goals - have lots of sex with the drool worthy bounty hunter Hung Durand, then make him dead. No one seems interested in her plan, from the bounty hunter, to the shifters, to her vampire roommate, to the blowhard who wants her job, leaving her with no other choice but to break her own rules.

My Review

I the fact that this was set in Charming, Alaska. I just sounds so wonderful to me! The two primary characters, Chia Petit and Hung Durand, are very lovable and I must tell you that I really enjoy a great story that can bring me the romance but also a bit of laughter! This was truly a wonderful read and I enjoyed it.

Mating Urge - Michelle Howard
Desperate to escape her stepfather and false criminal charges, Elliana Cage needed a way out on the first ship off world. She never expected security officer, Aran T'Kar to stop her in her tracks.

My Review
Aran was going through his heat mating cycle and unwittingly mates Elliana, a stowaway fugitive,  at their first meeting. They really compliment one another and  Aran acts as her protector and helps to clear her name. There is a little bit of drama, action, humor and hot, steamy sex in this read which is something I loved. I usually don't go for space themed books but I enjoyed this one.

My Blood Runs Blue - Stacy Eaton
Officer Kristin Greene finds herself investigating a homicide that will turn her life upside down in a way she never imagined. When Julian and Alexander crash into her life, Kristin finds herself being pulled into a love triangle that has been going on longer than she has been alive and she is determined to figure out who they are and why they keep calling her Calista.

My Review

Julian and Alex's friendship ended years ago when they both loved the same woman, Calista. After her death, they both dealt with the loss and guilt. Now thirty five years later, Kristin is the reincarnation of Calista and the love triangle starts all over again. We get to feel how much both men truly loved Calista through their memories and Kristin is faced with trying to sort through her feelings not to mention everything she has learned to choose between the two. If that wasn't enough they keep Kristin safe from the vampire intent on ridding the world of all female vampires/half breeds. It was really a great read and I don't do vampire books ever!

Eternal Night - Jade Kerrion
Alone for a millennium, since a human murdered her beloved consort, Ashra, the immortal icrathari queen, rules over Aeternae Noctis, the domed city of eternal night. Her loneliness appears to be at an end when her consort's soul is reborn in a human, Jaden Hunter, but their reunion will not be easy.

My Review

I must tell you that this was full of love, passion, deceit, corruption, betrayal, and overcoming the unknown. As I said before I don't really do vampire or future sort of books but this one had me from beginning to end and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the best boxed sets I've had the privilege to read. I have definitely found some great new authors to check out. A big 5 stars for this boxed set. Yes, of course, I liked some stories better than others, but all were exceptionally well-written stories. This is a steal at 99 cents.

Power Shift - Town manager, Chia Petit, makes the laws and follows them to the letter, earning her the nickname Rule Queen of Charming. Unfortunately, sexy bounty hunter, Hung Durand, is out to break them. When someone wants to take over Chia's town and shifters are being killed, they need to work together. Good fluid story with magic, shamans, shifters, a hot bounty hunter and an uptight town manager. Good plot, great characters and humor. Oh, and her roommate is D'Raynged, a vampire.
Mating Urge - Chief of Security for a battle cruiser, Aran is having hot flashes and uncontrollable sexual urges the closer he draws to his mating cycle. Elle is on the run from her killer stepfather, a prominent politician, and ends up hiding in Aran's cabin. Hotness ensues. With Elle having evidence against her stepfather, he is maneuvering her back to be killed. Good plot, fluid reading, great characters, a thoroughly enjoyable read.
My Blood Runs Blue - Officer Kristin Greene is she Calista reincarnated? Julian and Alexander of the Vampire Military Force certainly think so. When chasing down Damon to kill him, Julian runs into Kristin investigating the murder, who he is certain is his beloved Calista. She chose one of them in the past, but who will she choose this time? Very fluid story, liked the characters and the police drama going on.
Darkness & Light - Jem's been dreaming of werewolves since she was seven. The dreams are getting progressively more vivid until she starts to shift back and forth between her dream world and the real world. Terrified of her husband, who is a real sleezebag, Jem meets Sean Holloway who is strangely familiar. With bits and pieces of past lives in her visions, Jem doesn't have the whole story, but she knows she's not going back to her husband and stays with Sean and his family...of werewolves. Imagine Jem's surprise! But Sean isn't the only wolf who wants Jem and trouble follows. I found it hard to get into this story...which perhaps had something to do with Jem's character...but once I did it really picked up nicely.
Calm Assurance - Forbidden love. Asriel is a Nephilim who locates defectors and strips them of their light; brothers who have defected for giving in to their desires, doomed to walk the earth as vampires or worse, He really has no understanding or compassion for them. When he meets Malina, a human, who he is sent to protect for reasons he can't understand, he starts to realize that everything is maybe not so black and white. If they become intimate, he will be turned into the very being he hunts. Good plot and characters.
Laurel Heights - Laurel's nasty ex, Rand, sends his brother, Chase, to find Laurel and flush her out of hiding. She's got something she needs to give back. When Laurel inherits a house from an aunt she never knew, it seems the perfect place to hide out from her ex, but strange things start happening. She doesn't know what he's looking for, and she certainly doesn't have it. The house isn't the only battle Laurel will have. Good plot, however this story was only okay for me.
Eternal Night - Jaden Hunter finally learns the truth of the immortal icrathari when they kidnap his sister and he follows. They are not the unfeeling killers humans have always thought them, quite the opposite. With lots of the descriptive world-building, action and many surprise revelations, Eternal Night was a little slow to get into, but well worth it when you got there. Well-written, with a good plot, lots of interesting characters and action.
Rock Solid - Hot and erotic. Jake and Lexa are at Perdition House to give estimates for landscaping and repairs. With the horny ghosts of the old bordello at work, their attraction is instant and intense. They know the ghosts are working on them. Will their attraction survive outside of the House? This was a hot, erotic read with ghostly matchmakers.
Soul Avenged - Who doesn't love a Keri Lake novel? Book 1 in my favorite Sons of Wrath series. One of the best paranormal, or any, books I've read. I must admit I did not expect it to be so well written and so character involved. What a wonderful surprise. I loved the gritty, gut-gripping, fast- paced action. I had absolutely no problem following along with this book, without using the Glossary, as the writing flowed along smoothly explaining, without seeming to, everything I needed to know. Yes, I didn't like Ayden at first and had to keep reminding myself she had been conditioned to become who she was. I found myself nodding along with how Ayden and Kane's characters developed over the course of the book. The demon brothers I loved, of course who wouldn't? Oh so sexy! I can't wait to see them all develop in future books and find out the price Gavin will have to pay for the saving of Logan's life. Ms. Lake, simply superb...job well done.

I received this book as an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Power Shift by Calinda B: How refreshing it was to have such a new outlook on paranormal and mainly shifters. There was a wonderful amount of funny wit, and the sexual draw between two of the characters was enticing. Each character and the town was an important part of the story. Loved it!
Soul Avenged by Keri Lake: One of the best fight scenes ever! The clash between yesterday and today was exciting and riveting! Each character, whether good or bad, played an important role and I loved them all. I was left with an immense feeling of satisfaction at the book's conclusion.
