Now also a Romantasy author! Born in Vienna, Austria, I am now living in the paradise of Perth, Australia with my wife, two married children and three grandchildren. I worked many years in the printing industry and later for the United Nations in Vienna. My wife had been a pen-friend, whom I visited in Hong Kong and finally got married to. After an eventful life, finally retired, I began to write children's stories, had them illustrated through Odesk, narrated them myself for YouTube and finally published the ebooks on most platforms. Recently I started writing Romantasy stories and there are nearly 80 of them available. I love romance and wriye about all sort of life situations and also fantasy.

Review OLIVER AND JUMPY 34-36

I think all faithful readers of the delightful OLIVER AND JUMPY Series have wondered, "Just how did the elegant cat Oliver come upon such an illustrious white top hat? Now we discover! We also view Oliver's duration in the circus, and read an exciting report of how Oliver the elegant feline and Jumpy the inquisitive kangaroo go deep sea diving to explore a sunken shipwreck, discover buried treasure, and encounter a hungry Kraken.

This may be the best Oliver and Jumpy yet. The illustrations are better than ever and there is fantastic attention to detail and background, more than we expect in a book for young children.

Readers will have fun spotting all the items in the shop where Oliver buys his trademark white top hat. They will love to see all the different animals enjoying a ringside seat at the circus (and the monkey family) when Oliver joins the troupe for a day. And they can marvel at the undersea world when Oliver and Jumpy undertake a mission to find a wedding gift in a sunken ship.

Three great stories with a love of nature and adventure. Enjoy!

Oliver is a tomcat that likes to dress very elegantly, he is fond of wearing a white top hat. Jumpy is a kangaroo that is his best friend and companion on most of Oliver’s adventures.
The first story is called “How I Found My Top Hat” and is a lesson on having desires, working to achieve those desires, being disappointed and then having the wish granted. From the moment he saw the white top hat in the store window, Oliver wanted it. Lacking the funds to purchase it, he found a job helping to deliver milk and saved his money. Unfortunately, when he had enough the hat was sold, but in the end Oliver was able to acquire it.
The second story has Oliver working at a circus, doing many of the dangerous jobs such as walking a tightrope, jumping through a fire hoop and being shot out of a cannon. There is no underlying message in this story.
The third story opens with a storm leading to a shipwreck. A tiara meant for King Xylon’s future bride was part of the cargo and Oliver was asked by the President to dive into the ocean and recover the tiara. Jumpy assists in this adventure and while underwater they are attacked by a giant octopus and aided by a group of mermaids. One interesting feature of this section is that when the mermaids are seen from the front they are wearing a bikini top. However, when they are viewed from the back and side they are obviously topless. No big deal, just curious why it was done that way.
These are simple adventures that are within the usual bounds of the imagination of the young child. When I was young we regularly staged a “circus” and went on imaginary adventures sailing the mighty seas.
The illustrations are very colorful and attractive, the colors are intense and there is a lot of fine detail. Young readers will spend some time looking them over and picking out specific details. The text associated with each image appears at the bottom so it is easy for the eyes of the reader to move between them.
This is an attractive book of basic stories, the first includes a life lesson while the last two are just adventures.

This book is part of a series called Oliver and Jumpy. This particular volume has stories 34 - How I found my Top Hat, 35 - Oliver in the Circus and 36 - Ship Wreck. It is an excellent gift for parents with children under 8 as suggested by the author. The book is beautifully illustrated by Maycee Ann Reyes (story 34), Yon Rifa'i (story 35) and Mario Tereso (story 36) and that is a very important plus, as its main audience will rely on the images to follow the stories, as many will not have reached the age to start reading by themselves. In "How I found my TopHat", Oliver finds a hat he falls in love with and starts working and saving to buy the hat. What happens later is very touching. In the "Oliver in the Circus", Oliver takes part in many activities in the circus that is visiting his town. Finally in "Ship Wreck", Oliver and Jumpy venture in the sea to investigate the sink of a ship and they got in trouble and are rescued by unexpected frineds! All stories are very sweet and even touching and the characters are always showing good behavior. No violence, nothing too scary or too exciting, it will keep your toddler entertained (but not excited) during that critical bedtime period. They will love the stories and soon enough Oliver and Jumpy will be in their hearts forever.

In my kindle fire the story was presented in landscape orientation. No option to have it in portrait orientation, but this is far away from being a problem. I just thought it was worth mentioning.

Oliver is the coolest cat around in his stylish white top hat. He's classy and clever and the most famous cat in the country. Of course, a cool cat needs a buddy to pal around with and Jumpy the kangaroo is the perfect best friend. Jumpy even lets Oliver travel in her pouch! Join Oliver and Jumpy as they seek adventure on the high seas in search of lost jewels and sunken treasure. Follow Oliver as he joins the circus and becomes a clown, jumps through hoops of fire, and learns to walk the tightropes. Spend a day after school working with Oliver, who's trying to earn enough money to buy himself a Christmas present.

Lots of fun, colorful illustrations for children to enjoy. Recommended for ages 3 - 10 . Short, comprehensive storylines with characters boy and girls will grow to love. There are three stories in this book. Beautiful, clear illustrations.

Story #34 - HOW I FOUND MY TOP (illustrated by Maycee Ann Reyes)
Story #35 - OLIVER IN THE CIRCUS (illustrated by Yon Rifa'i)
Story #36 - SHIP WRECK (illustrated by Mario Teresco)

There are currently 62 Oliver and Jumpy stories (Twenty ebooks with three stories) available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, Ibooks, and Kobo. For the latest news about Oliver and Jumpy, please visit:

For this review I enlisted the help of our resident children's book expert, my eight year old, to give you her expert kid-opinion about this collection of books. Without further ado, her review! (edited only for readability)

It's this really cool book that has a cat in it and is usually wanting something or needing to do something. And usually when he's trying to do something, something gets in the way. He either escapes or somebody helps him. I like that it's mostly about overcoming what sometimes gets in your way. It's also about never ever giving up when something gets in your way, Oliver worked hard to solve his problems. We all need to work hard to solve our problems.

The pictures really help me to figure what's going on if there's something I don't understand. The pictures actually showed how they were feeling. I really liked the pictures because they were detailed and went along with the story good.

Kind of in the beginning of the last one I was a little creeped out because I thought it was going to be about a scary story. I don't like scary stories or anything that's scary. But when I saw the colors getting lighter and turning more into a cartoon again like the other stories I began to like the story. I was glad it wasn't scary because if it was I would ask to stop reading it and just have my mom read it herself.

When it came to reading big words that I probably didn't know I would try to pronounce the word and if I couldn't pronounce the word I asked my mom. Sometimes me and my mom play a game called what's the word, and what does it mean. My mom will say a big word I don't know, and I will have to try to see if I can guess what it means. That is exactly what we did with the book. I like big words because I love to learn big words I don't know, and why I like to learn them is because that way when I need to know that word I will already know what it means.

I would love it if anyone who can read this book will. It's a good book about overcoming things. I give this book 100 stars because it is a very good book, or a very great book. My mom says there are only five stars to give, so I give it all of them.

I'm now happily in my Second Childhood, when I can buy children's books and read them to myself and no one thinks any less of me. That's a good thing, because I've become a confirmed Oliver-and-Jumpy addict.

In the first story, we see Oliver as a teen and (amazingly) he looks both full grown and younger than he does in the other stories. We also meet his family. I was wondering how a black cat got into a family of silver cats (with purple ears!) but then his Mom arrived and SHE'S black, so I guess that explains it. No mention of Dad. Will he appear in a future book? It's a fine story about figuring out what's important and working for it. It also emphasizes the importance of family love and moral support.

In the second story, Oliver joins the circus. I never wanted to "run away and join the circus" myself, but many people do. Oliver's circus has all the recognizable features (clowns, aerialists, tigers, etc.) but the audience is quite unusual. Naturally, Oliver has to try all of the most dangerous stunts and (naturally) he emerges unscathed. Surprisingly, the one job that isn't mentioned is the one Oliver's famous top hat seems to qualify him for - Ringmaster.

In the third story, Oliver's Gal Pal Jumpy finally appears. A ship has wrecked and a beautiful queen-to-be needs her lost tiara before she ties the knot. As Oliver points out, a cat and a kangaroo are not the first people you think of to send on a deep-sea diving expedition, but both are patriotic citizens of Silandia. When their country calls, they strap on the scuba equipment and head down into Davy Jones' Locker. Thank goodness for mermaids! What would we do without them?

Each of the stories is illustrated by a different person. It's a quirky idea, but a brilliant one. As with all the books in this series, I quickly found my favorite picture. It's the title page of the first story and the expression on the face of the motorcyclist had me laughing before I read a word of the story.

If you're lucky enough to have a child or (even better) a grandchild to read these stories to, congratulations. If not, read them anyway.

Twelfth in a series of illustrated children’s books about a very handsome cat and his kangaroo sidekick, this three-story offering starts with the tale of where cat Oliver’s smart top hat came from. Maycee Ann Reyes’ illustrations have a nice blend of old-fashioned and new, and fit the formal voice of the narrating feline perfectly. A pleasingly traditional tale of hard work and family affection, How I Found My Top Hat is a fine bedtime story for children.

Oliver in the Circus offers a brightly illustrated introduction to circus acts in story 35, and the darker Ship Wreck blends lyrical sea scenes with cartoon excitement and mystery. Three very different stories and three very different illustrators make this an enjoyable addition to the Oliver and Jumpy collection. But readers can start anywhere, with any tale. They’re all unique, all held together by a rather formal, old-fashioned cat in a hat, in a very modern world.

Oliver And Jumpy Antiques Stories 34-36
By Werner Stejskal
Illustrator, Maycee Ann Reyes

This is another great book in the Oliver And Jumpy series, about an 'elegant tomcat' with a kangaroo for his best friend. The famous cat lives in a large, amazing Oak tree and is never short of some hair-raising adventures and fun. He's always sure that things will turn out well and they do--well most times.

Story 34: How I Found My Top Hat
Oliver tells his young readers how he came to owning a top hat. His hopes are crushed by the high prices, but nothing stops this cat and his plan to own a top hat; until something he doesn't expect, happens.

Story 35: Oliver In The Circus Illustrated by Yon Rifi
when the circus comes to town, who would believe that Oliver could take part in it? Taming tigers is scary but the monkeys like him. Being Oliver, he learns to do some exciting and dangerous acts. You just won't believe that what he does for his final act.

Story 36: Ship Wreck
Oliver is the most famous investigator of his time, or so he says. Read how he tries to solve the mystery of a ship wreck. This time, Oliver gets into deep trouble. It doesn't look like Jumpy and this brave cat can survive this tale.

Once again, Author Werner Stejskal and his wonderful illustrators have presented three new stories, certain to please young readers learning to read and those being read to by adults. The colors in these adventure stories are bright and eye catching, perfect for toddlers, and each one is short enough to hold a child's attention but never bore them.

There are children everywhere who will love these books so be sure to remember to buy the entire series--and brighten the lives of little readers.

This series includes short fairy tales and animal stories for bedtime reading (Kindle Edition)

In this trio of stories, Oliver the cat is searching for his niche in life. If you have not read the series, the protagonists are Oliver, an elegant tomcat, and his best friend Jumpy the kangaroo. First two stories in this set feature a young Oliver.

I always wanted to know where Oliver got his white top hat. As a high school student, Oliver was short of funds to buy the hat in the second hat shop so he gets a job after school delivering milk bottles, but at first he drops and breaks them on the cobblestone streets. He gets better with experience, but just when he saves enough money he discovers someone else has bought the hat. There is a surprise ending.
Our second tale also features Oliver. Here he decides to try his hand working at the circus. Oliver guides readers through the circus jobs he samples like tiger taming, tight rope walking, jumping through a hoop of fire and being shot out of a canon. Of course all of these are much more difficult than they appear!
In the third tale, Jumpy joins Oliver as they work as private investigators. A bad storm shipwrecks the wooden sailing vessel that is carrying the wedding tiara for King Xylon's bride. Despite the fact that cats hate water, Oliver and Jumpy don diving suits to find the wreck, but they are accosted by a sea monster. Will they be rescued? Is the tiara lost forever?
I particularly like the bold illustrations in the third tale. These stories are targeted for children ages three through eight. They can be read as bedtime stories or separately by independent readers. Lots of fun, adventure and humor.

Once again we join Oliver the Cat and Jumpy the Kangaroo for their newest adventures. Each time these two get together, there is plenty of fun to follow. Let's see what they are up to this time.
Story 34 How I Found My Top Hat. This one takes us back to when Oliver was just a kitten. He spies a top hat in the window of a store and loves it immediately. Oliver knows he must work to get the money to buy it. There is a surprise for Oliver though.
Story 35 Oliver In The Circus. Have you ever wanted to be part of the circus? Such fun it would be. Oliver is hired by the circus to do many jobs. He enjoys each of them because they keep him in the circus. Will he make it to the spotlight?
Story 36 Ship Wreck. Oliver and Jumpy are on a ship when a terrible storm hits. They aren't sure what is happening until they are told Oliver must find a tiara. The tiara is for King Xylon's bride. I wonder if Oliver finds it.

Such variety when it comes to children's stories are a huge plus! Parents get bored just as the children do, reading the same old thing. These stories take children all over. It allows them to experience different environments and jobs. The writing is amazing and the characters like old friends. Your child's imagination will definitely get a workout with these books. Perfect for bedtime or nap time. I enjoy the way it teaches children a lesson. Please get these for your child's library. They will want you to read them again and again.

I found no issues.

I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because children love them.

Oliver and Jumpy are a series of books for children aged from 1 to 8 years. They are about an elegant black cat with a white top hat- Oliver and his jumpy kangaroo friend- Jumpy. They go around having new experiences and funny adventures and sharing them with all their little friends.

I found the book very…cute! The illustrations are colourful, three-dimensional and very eye-catching. The words and sentences are simple and in narrative prose. While the suitability of the stories ranges between ages, for example, I found the story of their underwater adventure geared towards the older end of the spectrum while the circus story is perfect even for wee babies. The narrative prose can also be improved, especially in the transition from page to page where I found few discrepancies of tense.

But, that aside, Oliver is an endearing character. He’s a cat with quirks and wits and makes for a really good hero for introducing pre-school and primary school children to reading.

Werner Stejskal has done it again with a delightful new book for young children. “Oliver and Jumpy: stories 34-36” is sure to entertain both you and your young ones. These three fun stories are beautifully illustrated by Maycee Ann Reyes.

If you have not read any of the other Oliver and Jumpy stories, don’t fret. You can enjoy these stories on their own merits. Oliver, the elegant tomcat, and his friend, Jumpy, the kangaroo, and her son, Joey, will keep you entertained. The friends have gone on many adventures together in the past, and here are three more adventures.

In story 34, we learn how Oliver got his famous white top hat. Story 35 is a circus adventure. Story 36 is a bit scary! The friends are in a shipwreck. Will they survive? Read this story to find out.

Thank you, Werner, for bringing such great stories to your readers.

"Oliver and Jumpy, Stories 34-36 (Oliver and Jumpy, the Cat Series, Book 12)" by Werner Stejskal is the perfect book for kids 10 and under. School age children who like to read on their own can follow along, but it is also great for parents to read to their younger children. It is broken down into 3 different, easy to read, very short stories. Story 34: 'How I found my Top Hat,' tells the story of how Oliver worked hard to earn money in order to buy an expensive Top Hat, but there is a twist to the story. Story 35: 'Oliver in the Circus,' tells the story of how Oliver starts at the bottom of the ladder and works his way up to different circus performances, but being in the circus is not just fun it is also hard work. Story 36: 'Ship Wreck,' gives us a story of lost treasure and overcoming obstacles that are in the way of finding what Oliver and his friend Jumpy are looking for.

Oliver and Jumpy are the unlikely duo of a top hat wearing cat and a kangaroo. The stories are brightly illustrated, matching the fun and witty stories that usually have great life lessons for kids.
The first story shows us how Oliver got his signature top hat. When finding a hat that he wanted, Oliver immediately decided to find a job to earn money. Story two is about a circus, and children will love both the story and the fun illustrations. Story three takes place on the ocean and has a slightly darker tone at the beginning for the first few pages before bringing back the bright illustrations and Oliver and Jumpy, searching for treasure from the ship seen sinking in the first few panels. The sea scenes are vibrant and colorful and kids will love them. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been an adult fan of Werner Stejskal’s ‘Oliver and Jumpy’ series since reading the first one. These are great bedtime stories for the young ones, and my grandchildren love following the adventures of Oliver, the self-centered and elegant tom cat, who, along with his kangaroo friend, Jumpy, gets into all kinds of pickles, but always manages to come out okay in the end.
In Oliver and Jumpy 34-36, we learn how Oliver got his signature white top hat, see the antics he gets up to when he joins the circus, and go along with him and Jumpy when they’re asked to explore a ship wreck to retrieve a wedding tiara.
Elegantly (as Oliver) illustrated, each story contains a subtle lesson for the young ones, but primarily, they’re just entertaining.

"Wonderful Young Children Stories"

Youngsters love these adventure stories of Oliver, the suave black and white cat, Jumpy, his lady kangaroo friend, and Joey, Jumpy's young boy. In this collection we learn how Oliver gets his classy white top hat; then there is the circus fun with monkeys galore! The last story is of a worrisome ship wreck which Oliver is asked to investigate. What do you think he will find? The illustrations of very charming, the ship wreck illustrations very artistic. Illustrators are Maycee Ann Reyes, Mario Tereso, and Yon Rifa'i. It is so much fun to read these tales to young children; they make great bedtime stories. One thing we all learn about Oliver: he never gives up, he always achieves his goal. Highly recommend, adults enjoy reading these, too!

This book is comprised of three short stories.  Story #1, "How I Found My Top Hat," as a kitten Oliver finds his must-have hat in a secondhand store and knows he must work hard to raise the money to buy it.  Story #2, "Oliver in the Circus", Oliver joins the circus hoping to be the best hire that he can be.  Alas he discovers that life in the circus is not his cup of tea.  Story #3, "Shipwreck", is about a ship that has capsized and inside it is a valuable tiara meant for the bride of a king in a near-by country.  The pair become engaged in a battle royal with an octopus struggling to retrieve the prize tiara and return it to its rightful owner.  The quality of the illustrations are fantastic and certainly add a richness to the text.

Oliver and Jumpy is an awesome series for kids. I loved the illustrations and the illustrations are enough to tell what's happening in the story. Each story is quite interesting. It begins with a tricky situation and our duo Oliver and Jumpy always end up finding correct solutions to lead up to a happy conclusion.

Kids love stories where an animal features as the main character. Oliver is an adorable cat and his friend Jumpy is equally attractive. I'm sure the little ones would love to read about their adventures and victories. Five stars for this book!

Fabulous graphics as usual and lessons to be learned.
