This may not have any new or groundbreaking recipes but it is one of the clearest and easiest to follow recipe books I have ever read. Not only does it have step by step instructions but it also has step by step photographs illustrating each one. This really is a perfect guide for new cooks.

When it says 'step-by-step' it means really, literally, and to the nth-degree. It's simple explanatory without being mocking or degrading or patronizing. There is no blind, 'walking by faith' cooking here.
It's gentle and firm in teaching you the steps.

The pictures are brightly lit so you can see the 'what's what' and 'how's how.'
(Especially on making hamburgers - I'm always messing up any burger recipe.)
Each step builds towards total completion, no half ways.

It's a good book to give anyone really: newbies who want to improve, kids who want to learn, and - I personally believe- even tried and true vets of oven-taming.
