This is one title in a series of 8, Adivina (Guess). In addition to the non-fiction text features this book offers, the photographs are great! They are magnified and show color and texture vibrantly.

The text and photographs compliment one another well. This is helpful to emergent readers trying to decode unfamiliar words.

It's not a very challenging guessing game, however. If a reader is already familiar with the animal in question, the pictures are a dead give-away. On the other hand, these make great primary source material for young researchers. The additional facts, glossary, and incredible photographs give little scientists plenty to draw from.

Text Features: table of contents, page numbers, additional facts, glossary, index

Intended audience: PK-2
Curriculum Connection: animals, biology, research, non-fiction text features, inferencing, color and texture vocabulary

Although this animal has exceptional eyesight, that isn't what makes it stand out. Readers will be hopping on their toes and bounding all around just like this animal after following the clues provided in the photos and texts to figure out what this popular animal could be. This is another easy-to-read but oh, so fun title to include in your elementary science classroom library.
