“A heroine you'll never forget and a story that whips by at bullet speed." ~Tess Gerritsen, NYT bestselling author
NEW! From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author CJ Lyons, Book #2 in her Fatal Insomnia Medical Thrillers series:
I may be dying, but I’ve finally found someone to live for…
It’s been a sleepless month since Dr. Angela Rossi was diagnosed with Fatal Insomnia after a not-quite-dead nun reached out directly to Angela’s mind and set her on the path to hunt down a serial killer.
After learning she only has a few months left to live, Angela has left the ER and has one final case to testify at for the Advocacy Center. As soon as she brings justice to her last victim, a woman who was raped and brutalized seven months ago, Angela plans to take control of what little time she has left by escaping the sullen Pennsylvania December to a remote tropical island and ending it all on her terms. Her one regret is leaving Detective Matthew Ryder—he’s been her solace in the midst of the chaos her life has deteriorated into.
When the rape victim is murdered on the day she’s scheduled to testify and the rapist goes free without naming his accomplices, Angela makes it her mission to bring him to justice…one way or the other.
She’s helped by streetwise Devon Price, who doesn’t care about the law but does care about justice. He argues that Angela could be the perfect vigilante if she wanted, given that she no longer has anything to lose or to fear.
When a loved one is targeted, Angela is forced to betray everything she holds dear in an effort to stop the killers. Unfortunately, there’s a thin line between justice and vengeance.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over forty novels, former pediatric ER doctor CJ Lyons has lived the life she writes about in her cutting edge Thrillers with Heart.

Angela, Ryder and Devon are back in A Raging Dawn, book two of C.J. Lyons intense Medical Thriller series, Fatal Insomnia. Just weeks after the life and death fight with an insane serial killer that brought them together and changed the course of their lives, Angelia, Ryder and Devon face a darker evil, one that power and corruption has brought down on the people around them. An evil that feeds off the pain and suffering of others, an evil that places no value on human life and lives to line its pockets with their deaths. As Angela faces the disease that has brought a death sentence to her she finds that she has more to lose then just her life and more to live for then she wants to admit. This book has such strong well developed characters and is so well written that at times it takes your breath away. C.J. has a way of spinning a web of fear and tension with her words and painting a picture that brings her characters and settings visually to life as you read. I can't wait to find out where she is going to lead us in this fascinating series!
I became a fan if CJ Lyons a couple years ago when I started reading her Lucy Guardino FBI series. I felt very honored to be able to review her new Series Fatal Insomnia. I recieved a free copy of A Raging Dawn book 2 in exchange for an honest review. I quickly read the book because I couldnt put it down once I started! The book picked up where the first one, Farewell to Dreams, left off. Dr Angela Rossi has a one in a million diagnosis of Fatal Insomnia and while she deals with the fatal disease, her friends Devin Price and her new lover Ryder try to solve a client's murder along with a new development about the Fatal Insomnia you never seen coming! And don't forget her ex-husband Joshua, another carry over from book 1! In CJ's writing, the characters have so much heart and dedication, you root for them abd the good they are trying to accomplish, even some of the NOT so good guys, the entire way! The suspense keeps your heart in your throat the whole time you are reading, plus you are turning pages faster and faster to get to the next part of the story! Dont miss this second book in the series and then join the rest of us for Book 3! What will Angela have to go through next!
A Raging Dawn takes up where Fatal Insomnia leaves off. Rossi and Ryder are together and they are trying to get a rapist convicted of murder. The day the star witness is supposed to testify she is brutally murdered. Meanwhile, Dr. Rossi is fighting her Familial Fatal Insomnia (FFI)and hiding her diagnosis from most of her family and friends. Her family suspects something is wrong and stage an intervention for her. As if this is not enough stress, there are 19 new cases of FFI. Devon Price and Rossi have to watch as someone they care about suffers and everyone one close to Rossi is being targeted. Hard to put this one down. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Very suspenseful.
I enjoyed this better than the first, that maybe because this installment opens with gusto. I was a little afraid that to much happens to soon, and that my cause a gap at some point. The story kept the strength and action running. I like Dr. Rossi because she thinks about what and why. There is a twist in this book and it is a good one. Now how long before book three, please.
C J Lyons is the best at medical drama. This is Book 2 in the Fatal Insomnia Series. Dr. Rossi, Ryder & Devon Price are still trying to solve the mystery on who and why are people being targeted and killed for no reason. As they continue on this journey that started in book one, it seems that Dr. Rossi's illness is progressing. So many things are happening at once and every time they get a lead there is another twist in the story.
I am loving this series. I just started Book 3 where all this will be resolved one way or another. Dr. Rossi, Ryder & Devon are all going in different directions so I hope they will pull together to solve this and find a cure for Fatal Insomnia.
This is the second book in the Fatal Insomnia series. This is such a compelling story. The twists and turns are so effortless, that you don't realize what just happened. It made me want to read from the beginning to see how I missed the direction this book was going. Just a great story.
I received an advance reader copy of this e book for an honest review. This is the second book in what is obviously a series or at least a trilogy. I had purchased A Farewell To Dreams to receive a free version of A Raging Dawn. I did not receive this book soon enough to finish Farewell, and decided to jump in to the second book cold so that I could review this book before the deadline. First, the story does stand on it's own. There are enough flashbacks and reference to Farewell To Dreams to understand relationships, and plot lines. The story a medical mystery, mass infection and sadistic killings that trouble an ER doctor, Rossi, and former detective, Ryder. This story begins in the aftermath of the previous book. Other reviewers will give the synopsis so I will just give my reaction. The characters are strong and mostly likable more importantly, completely believable. I found that reactions and interactions were honest and 3 dimensional, for me this is the glue that holds any compelling story together. It is a fast paced story that holds your attention, and when I had to put it down I found myself wondering about the characters and where they were headed. The characters stayed more with me than the story line but the story arc is only 2 books in and is still in the process of building the conspiracy. While one mystery is solved by the end, there is clearly so much more to come. One weak spot for me was Rossi's family. Her family was annoying, pointless, and not well developed. Their personalities seemed more of a conceit to filling Dr Rossi's background and make her more relatable as a person. They just annoyed me as much as they annoyed her and I have to admit I was a little irritated with Dr Rossi for putting up with them. Still, with more books coming perhaps they will eventually serve a real purpose. The only regret I have is that I had to read this fast to make the review deadline. I would have liked to savor the book a little longer and really get to know the characters. When the next book comes out I will be able to re-read a better pace for pure enjoyment. CJ Lyons' fans will love this book and for those who are unfamiliar with her work the Rossi/Ryder duo are a perfect introduction.
RAGING DAWN is a riveting suspense love story dealing with dealing with life a threating illness of CJ Lyons’ main protagonist, Dr. Angela Rossi. Angela was first diagnosed with “Fatal Insomnia” in Lyons’ book FAREWELL TO DREAMS. Lyons takes her readers on a search for answers as they shadow Angela in her search for answers. Lyons adds twists and turns creating an intense plot uncovering a sinister storyline. Angela deals with family issues and finds she is a danger to everyone she loves. Readers know why Angela is keeping the details of her illness a secret. They see Angela accepting her certain death as good reason to keep for keeping a distance between her and Detective Matthew Ryder. Falling in love with him is not an option.
Lyons keeps her readers in suspense throughout the entire story. She keeps changing direction of the storyline making readers hold their breath as they turn each page. Readers meet great support characters learning their backstories and their roles they play, as Lyons introduces them to the storyline. The author continues developing her characters, adding important new details as needed. Lyons’ RAGING DAWN helps readers understand the challenges Angela faces. Each new discovery creates more questions causing Angela to investigate her diagnosis in more detail. The author describes Angela’s reaction when her investigation uncovers new details of her father’s death. Angela doesn’t know what to believe or who to trust. Readers continue to be kept in the dark, waiting to see how Angela deals with what she must to do to save people’s lives. RAGING DAWN is a heart stopper and the ending is so amazing readers may have to pinch themselves to understand Lyons’ explosive ending. Lyons’ new book earns a 5-star ranking.
I was very excited to have the privilege to read this ebook before publication. 'A RAGING DAWN: A Novel of Fatal Insomnia #2' pretty much picks up right where the first book ended. ('FAREWELL TO DREAMS: A Novel of Fatal Insomnia') There isn't any significant amount of time that was elapsed. Thank goodness, I'd hate to miss anything, Lol.
* * I'm not one who gives away Spoilers... * *
Dr. Angela Rossi the former ER doctor at Good Sam's Hospital is now racing against time with her fatal disease as you well know now... BUT she's not the only one that has this deadly disease. However, her disease is hereditary... hmmm, soooo how is it possible the others have contracted it?!
Is there another book to this series? Yes, I think so, and CJ my friend, I'm holding on for Dr. Rossi and Ryder, as well as the characters that draw you into their lives too.
I have to say I wish there was a higher rating than 5 stars, this ebook deserves much more!!
'A RAGING DAWN: A Novel of Fatal Insomnia #2' was more Exhilarating, heart stopping, breath holding, adrenalin rush, and a MUST READ....
* I honestly WILL tell ya if a book is worth reading or not and this IS!!!*
~ Happy Reading Y'all
✶✶After purchasing the 'FAREWELL TO DREAMS: A Novel of Fatal Insomnia' ebook, I was given a FREE Advance copy of Book #2 'A RAGING DAWN: A Novel of Fatal Insomnia' to read and review before the rest of the world! That in NO way affected my opinion in this review at all!✶✶
CJ Lyons has been producing quality writing for a while now, so I picked this up with high expectations. I was not disappointed.
I'm not one to give away plot points in my reviews, for that you can read the blurb above. This is the second book to feature Dr Angela Rossi, a great, complex character. She suffers from Familial Fatal Insomnia, which throws all kinds of kinks into the characters life and drives the book forward at a good pace. The bad guys are suitably bad and the good guys have sufficient gray areas to render them interesting, believable, and people that you want to root for. All in all, this has all of the ingredients you need for one of those books that you pick up with your morning coffee and, before you know it, it's time for dinner!
The authors background makes it effortless for her to make the medical scenes and descriptions scarily vivid...or just plain scary and the locations are painted very well too. The prose moves along at a great pace, at times flowing and descriptive and, at others just 'in your face' fun. Lines like "My stomach clenched so hard I felt my belly button slam against my spine" or "Justice was blind, but she carried a sword, skewering deceit as she fought for truth" are two good examples!
I don't think you need to read the first book in the series before you tackle this (although you should read it anyway, it's great), just pick this up and be ready to give up a few hours of your life...you won't regret it.
A continuance of Farewell to Arms ,you are immediately drawn into the suspenseful life of Dr. Angela Rossi. Angela has contracted Fatal Insomnia and wants to fade away quietly. As often happens, however, life has a way of interrupting the easy path. She is told that her disease is hereditary . but is it? The emergence of a possible evil attacking the children, with symptoms similar to those she is experiencing. Is there a connection. Could there really be someone or something evil enough to cause children to suffer. What is the connection? At times the suspense was so intense that I had to put the book down for short breaks. Obviously not too long as I finished this rather quickly. Rich characterization that draws you in and holds you there. Intriguing glimpses of the dark side .A sidetrack into family relations. Can she save the children? Who can she truly trust? Must she give up her only chance at happiness ,no matter how brief? This series is is full of suspense. Love, hate ,revenge ,triumph and horror. An intense read that will leave you begging for more....
Brilliant sequal to Fatal Insomnia. Angela, facing certain death from a rare incurable Fatal Insomnia disease doesn't fold and cry "why me" instead she draws on all of her waning strength to try and save nineteen children who oddly display many of the same symptoms as herself. Not all of her symptoms however, there is one only a couple people know about one that scares her to the core. How could so many children come down with fatal insomnia when it's so rare only one in a hundred thousand people come down with it and it's hereditary? These questions and more plague Dr. Angela Rossi as she attempts to find the cure for the children if there is one and who is behind this horrific development. A story to keep you guessing, and one you just can't put down. I was offered to participate in reading and reviewing this new series and since I live CJ Lyons writings I jumped at the chance. My honest opinion is you can't go wrong and you can't put it down once you start!
The second book in the Fatal Insomnia series, I enjoyed this much more than the first. In fact, I'm pretty sure that this is my favorite of CJ Lyons' later books (nothing can compare to the Angels of Mercy series, in my opinion)! Angela Rossi, a recent former ER doctor has been diagnosed with a fatal disease and isn't sure how much time she has left. However, that doesn't stop her from giving her all in trying to prevent others from suffering the same fate.
I was a little disappointed that the reader was left hanging at the end, but that only signals another great installment to the series! Oh, and did I mention that once I started this, I couldn't put it down?
I received this book for free by buying the first book Farewell To Dreams. I loved the first book and I loved this one. I do not consider myself a fast reader but I could not put these books down and read them in 2 days each. This book is fast paced, suspenseful and has some great characters. You start reading and you cannot stop. You have to find out what is going to happen next. I cannot wait until the next book in the series.
I think A Raging Dawn deserves a higher than a 5 rating. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes crime thrillers. I think C. J. Lyons is an amazing author. I cannot wait to read more of her books.
A compelling read. Suspenseful medical adventure. It's been a while since I read the first book in the series, Farewell to Dreams. It was easy to get back into the story without too much extra back story to slow things down. The story was interesting and fast paced. I was at the edge of my seat for the entire ride wanting to know what happens next. I don't know which version of justice I would be after if it was me in the story. Made me question how I would define right and wrong. I enjoyed the building relationships, and I'm rooting for a "happily ever after" ending. Looking forward to the next book!
Loved this book! It is a great continuation of Farewell to Dreams (book 1). The plot followed seamlessly and most of the characters had already been introduced. We continued the journey with Ryder & Dr Rossi in regards to their romance, her fatal disease, their work struggles, etc. In this book, they battle to see a rapist brought to trial, lose a key witness, discover more cases of fatal insomnia, & more. The pace is fast but very well thought out. The characters are all complex and believable. I can't wait for the next continuation! I couldn't put it down because I had to see what was next.
I received this ebook as an ARC for a honest review. I liked this, as well as the first one; it is a somewhat dark, earthy, mystery thriller with a bit of romance in it. I can't do this book justice (partly because I am currently sleep deprived, somewhat ironic) - it is well written, fast paced, and more than once I was surprised at who was involved. Rossi, Ryder, and Devon continue to occasionally work at cross purposes, but do manage to (partly) resolve what's going on. The tone is (I believe) more optimistic that the first one, although (minor spoiler) while things are resolved, another can of worms is opened. I could not put it down.
I was honored to be an advanced reviewer and receive a free copy of A Raging Dawn in exchange for an honest review. Did I like it, you better believe it, I just purchased a copy of the book. I want to do all I can to keep great stories like this coming. CJ did a great job of continuing the first book and yet taking us to new places. Twists and turns enough for anyone. More great characters, and more development of the characters continuing from the first book. I knew I was going to have a hard time putting it down, after reading the first book in the series, and I was right, I did not want to quit reading. What a ride! Thank you CJ
There is so much that I loved about this book that it is difficult to know where to start. It picks up where the first one left off, and immediately brings you back into the world of Angela and Ryder fighting against sadistic killers. I like the fact that their relationship has progressed, but it isn't the focus of the story. The story, once again, is a page turner with a LOT of intensity. I do think that there is a bit more of a cliffhanger with this one than what the first book had. It just makes me really want more though! :) I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good thriller! It was a great ride!!!
This book's story line takes up three weeks from the end of the previous Farewell to Dreams, and I read the two books back-to-back so the characters, setting, and conflicts were very fresh for me.
The author has written an intelligent drama that pulls one into the emotions of the main characters and their struggles. (In fact, Angela Rossi's point of view is always written in first person.) It was very difficult to put the story down!
I was fortunate to receive a free copy of the book in return for an honest review. All conclusions are my own.
After Farewell to Dreams, I questioned whether a second book could compare to the high level of storyline. I shouldn't have. Wow! This is one fantastic book that never stops with the action. I was gasping at every turn and turning pages fast. This is a cliffhanger, but you will not want to miss the chance of reading it. There is no one who won't deceive you. Watch out! The disease that spirals this story to life will scare you! Given this book by Badass Marketing in exchange for an honest review.
Angela Rossi maybe dying but to find justice for those that can't, makes the time she has left worth living. Regardless of the evil that lurks around each corner, Angie, Matt & Devon race against time to capture justice, sometimes to catch a criminal is to become or be one. Great characters, amazing story line, suspense factor off the charts. Not a standalone must be read after Farewell to Dreams. Will be buying the paperbacks of this series when available to add to my collection.
Dr. Angela Rossi, Ryder and Devon are back in this second book in the Fatal Insomnia Series. Dr. Rossi has more to fear than only her life and the evil that surrounds it. Ms. Lyons has a great way to bring these characters to life that makes you wanting to keep reading about them. Another great book by a wonderful author!
I absolutely love this series. It is highly recommended and cj LYONS is a fantastic writer. This book will keep you wanting more and hope that is never ends. I am looking forward to the next book in the series
I look forward to new CJ Lyons books and this one didn't disappoint. Great heroine-- highly recommend you read the first in the series prior. It did leave you hanging at the end--would have preferred a bit more resolution, but a great suspenseful series!!
Book 2 of the Fatal Insomnia series… begins right where book 1 ended… Exhilarating, impossible to put down. I read it in two days only because I had to sleep! Great suspense! Can’t wait for Book 3!!!!
