Italian Prints 1875-1975

Rate this book
This book is a catalogue of Italian prints executed between 1875 and 1975. It is based on the recently founded collection at the British Museum but also draws on examples owned by the Estorick, Tate Modern, and Victoria and Albert Museum. Italy's independence in 1861, the founding of the Venice Biennale and a series of exhibitions led to an international influence on the Italian printmakers. Pioneers of naturalism, realism and symbolism, they also played a major role in establishing Futurism, Metaphysical Painting and Arte Povera. This catalogue provides a general discussion of Italian printmaking after the nineteenth century, along with 123 illustrations by 45 artists.
