Escaping from scandal to a quaint country town, Lady Eleanor Whitcombe finds herself enjoying the company of Cambridge astronomy professor John Caldwell, but their newfound relationship is threatened by her past indiscretions.
Catherine Blair (a.k.a. Cordia Byers) grew up in Texas, were she spent her high school years writing romances for her friends. She received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Cornell University and currently studies opiate addiction. No one else thinks that the pun between "heroin addiction" and "heroine addiction" is as funny as she does. Catherine is a member of the Romance Writers of America and lives with her husband in San Diego, California.
I have to admit that I'm really embarrassed by the covers of these Zebra Regency Romances I've been reading. They're so cheesy! I want to cover them up before I take them out in public, but I keep reading them because they are clean and generally well-written. Well enough anyway.
In this one, the protagonist is a fallen woman, having had an affair on her estranged husband. A very public affair. So, even though she's a Lady, she is living in a tiny town in a small cottage, as a recluse with her son. All that changes one day when her son makes an acquaintance while sledding for the first time.
It's not a bad read, but it wasn't my favorite. There was just so much unnecessary secrecy. The book would have been half as long if people would just talk to one another.
The plot does not have a year, however I assume that it takes place during the Regency era. Set in Cambridge, Lady Eleanor is living a quiet life, until her son, William meets John Caldwell.
