Emotionally sweet romance

This complete set of two books was more than I expected. More than your typical professional hockey player and sweet college student romance, Fire On Ice starts out gently with our apprehensive college student, Taylor Thompson, who is from a well-to-do, upper middle class family and on the path to getting her doctorate in psychology.

Bad boy hockey player, Kian Kavanagh has grown up in a hard part of town, and lived an even harder childhood. Kian has saved all his earnings from the game to one day buy that sports bar when he retires, and he’s driven, but one thing he doesn’t do is complicated relationships. Not until he meets Taylor Thompson at a bar studying. He’s instantly intrigued, and although Taylor is reluctant go out with another hockey player, she agrees to a date. Taylor is still trying to get over a crushing betrayal from her jerk ex-boyfriend from high school and wonders if Kian is any different.

I just loved how the attraction slowly built, and how Taylor was able to find through Kian trust and reassurance she’s never felt before. Ms. Madison wrote these two such likeable characters. Taylor’s sister, Zelda, is an absolutely irreverent and funny character. Her writing is stellar, the plot and characters are very well defined.

In the second book, The Playmaker, Kian is sent up to Seattle with the NHL.
Leaving Taylor in Arizona is the hardest thing Kian has ever done, and with his strenuous game schedule and training, little time is left to spend with her. Their relationship becomes vulnerable when the unthinkable happens and a stalker threatens Taylor. Everyone comes together for her, and I only had the highest admiration for Kian wanting to protect Taylor and not being afraid to reassure her of his love every time. Definitely did not see that twist coming. So proud Taylor finally kicked some ass.

I’m a fan of epilogues, and so glad that it was very satisfying. Fire On Ice made me laugh, cry, anxious, and exhilarated. I highly recommend it.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

What a powerful love story

From the moment Kian laid eyes on Taylor, his life was changed. He met a woman who made him want to change who he is. Taylor cannot believe she is considering dating a hockey player. Even after three years, she cannot get over Austin's betrayal, except she cannot get Kian out of her head!! Should she give him a chance?
Kian had to overcome his past and so did Taylor. Kian had been a womanizer before Taylor, but the moment he met Taylor, that changed. However, he had to prove it to Taylor. His first chance, he failed miserably!!! When Shawna tried to claim him, he didn't know what to do or what to say. The pain he saw in Taylor's eyes, as something he never wanted to see again. He would do anything to get a second chance. Would Taylor give Kian a second look? Or would she always group him into a group with Austin, her high school boyfriend that violated her terribly?
Taylor hadn't dated or wanted to date since the fateful prom night her senior year. But, Kian stirred something in her that she had long kept locked down. Taylor worried that if Kian found out, he wouldn't want her. Was she able to get over feeling like discarded garbage? When she makes progress, tragedy hits and now she wonders if Kian can ever love her when she has been used and abused? Can Kian prove to Taylor that she is it for him?
Kian and Taylor had some major hurdles in their relationship. However, whether you call it soul mates or love at first sight, what Kian and Taylor have from the moment they meet is special. It didn't come easy. They both had some insecurities and things to overcome, especially Taylor. But, watching Kian, who is definitely rough around the edges, become such a sweet and caring guy was very sweet. He kept his protective nature, but was super sweet. I liked Taylor in the end, she really was about coming into her own after her second tragedy and it as great to read.
This is a great read, I truly enjoyed Kian and Taylor's story!!! I definitely recommend this collection of two books!!

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Wow. What I thought would be a contemporary romance about a hockey player and a college student turned into something more than I anticipated. Not suspenseful twists, more like "wow, you went there" type of twists.

The story starts out pretty typical -- Kian, a minor league hockey player that came from nothing. Tough life, but fortunate to have skill. Doesn't think much of himself and doesn't see anything but a future in hockey. He enjoys the ladies on a casual basis. No relationships, no future family planned. Just saving his money for his plan B if things don't work out.

Taylor, the female interest in the book comes from a good family and a good head on her shoulders. Her future is set (in her eyes), but she is not a casual dater -- in fact she doesn't date at all. To her, it's about finishing her degree and moving toward her PhD. She's been burned -- bad and isn't interested in ever trusting men again. She also doesn't think much of herself thanks to a douche bag she thought she loved in high school, who happened to turn her life upside down.

In the first book, you see Kian and Taylor deal with their own issues as well as why they should give each other a chance. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger -- Kian getting the opportunity to live out his dream, while trying to decide if that is still his dream. The second book picks up where the first one left off with Kian playing the pros and Taylor finishing school. Things seem to be on track and there seems to be the HEA in sight until one night rocks both their worlds. I thought something would happen, but yeah the author took us down another road. At first I was afraid the HEA train crashed and burned, but Kian and Taylor eventually get back on track.

I enjoyed the books. I'm a little sad that it was just a two book series. I'm hoping maybe a short story will pop up somewhere.

Okay, I went into reading this book fairly blind ... I liked the guys chest on the cover (hey, I'm honest!), and I liked that it was about a hockey player, but have never read this author, or heard any reviews -- I so loved it! I adored Kian from the first page, and Taylor just seemed like such a fit for him that you just had to hope that from the first time he laid eyes on her, that she would give him a chance. I wish there were a couple more books for me to run out and buy to enjoy more of them.

Kian Kavanagh walks into a bar ... no really, he does! ... and a short time later, meets the woman of his dreams. Just their first eye contact across the room knocks him for a loop.

Taylor Thompson is there with a friend just conducting an experiment for her psychology class, she never expects to meet a guy. And what a guy he is. Kian plays minor league hockey, and that's actually a negative immediately in Taylor's eyes because she's been hurt by a jock in the past, and swore to never date one again.

Kian convinces her to take his number, and is shocked when she actually calls him. They casually see each other a few times, and it doesn't take long for them to realize that they are a great fit. They are enjoying life when Kian gets called up to the majors and has to move to Seattle. When Taylor suffers a horrific trauma, will she be able to come back from it? And will Kian be able to be there for her when he's not even in the state?

This book kept me up all night - in a good way! Dakota Madison has a way with characters. Writing them in first person was a smart choice, and it brings them even more vividly to life. Kian and Taylor jumped right out at me from the first two chapters, with such fabulous voice that made each of them stand alone as individuals with their own language, culture, and background. Plus (and it might as well be said right now) Kian is totally, utterly, ridiculously hot. Great character, and fantasy fodder for sure!

Their romance is as inexplicable as it is passionate, reminiscent of Nicolas Sparks' "The Longest Ride," where a rough-around-the-edges athlete falls hard for a rich, intelligent, sophisticated college girl. However, there's more depth to it than that, especially as Kian's protective instincts kick in when Taylor's traumatic past - and present - is revealed. In the end, their love story becomes believable simply through their total commitment to each other, through the good times and bad. The ending brought it all together in a satisfying way.

This review would have been 5 stars but for a few little spelling and editing hiccoughs in the second part of the book. Nothing to interfere greatly with my appreciation of this fantastic story, but worth a star since I am tough on editing. Despite that, this has been one of the most enjoyable books I've read in some time!

TOP 10 RECOMMENDED

This is the first I have read from Dakota Madison and have to say it blew me away. I just loved Kian for here is a man who by stereotype supposed to be a player when it comes towards women because of his career. Yet Dakoka Madison shows us a different kind of a player. Here is Kian who is just trying to save for opening his own business and becomes struck with a love he has never felt before. Taylor just completes him in every way it scares him of ever losing her. I felt for Taylor and the tragedy she went through totally understanding why she kept to herself. It takes a strong man like Kian to give Taylor the independence, passion and love she needs in her life to feel alive. Dakota Madison just created such a beautiful New Adult romance that just was awesome. I mean after reading this story I went and got some more of Dakota`s books for if they`re anything like this one she is one author I want to keep up with in reading.Totally rocked.

LOVED this (these) books. I was a little leery about reading this since I knew rape was part of the subject matter. While never a topic I enjoy reading about, I'm glad I put that aside and decided to read this one because the story is about so much more than that one horrific act of violence. Part one of this book is about how love or even just the possibility of love can have an effect on us. It can make us want to be better people worthy of that love. The second part of the book is about how deeply love can affect us and what we are willing to do or willing to give up for that person that makes us whole. Sometimes just knowing that love is there is all you need to overcome some very dark days, take strength and determination from it, and come out the other side of the darkness a better and stronger person.

I found this story incredibly moving and I would recommend it to everyone. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and honestly, put aside the subject matter and read it!

The Playmaker

First off, I want to thank Dakota for allowing me to read and review her series. I must say I was hooked from the beginning. Taylor is such a strong young woman, who has been through so much. I envy her strength. What can I say about Kian, other than wow what a loyal, loving, completely, committed man. Their story was so inspiring and truly heartfelt. I highly recommend this series to everyone. Absolutely a great read..

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good read. I loved the relationship between Kian and Taylor. It was story of opposites attract and it turned out great. I liked all the drama that also filled the story from both within the relationship and outside the relationship.

I'd recommend this to any sports romance or opposite attraction romance readers.

This story has a completely different focus than I expected. One that is barely hinted at in the story blurb. It ends on a happy note.
