Monster in the Mountains by Anne Schraff is one of the most suspenseful books I have ever read. I love to read mystery books and this one is one of the best mystery books I have read. A group of elementary children go to a camp for summer with three counselors, two girls, and one boy. The main characters names are Carmela, Lauren, and Jeff. Carmela one of the leaders in the camp was hoping on meeting a boy there. The three counselors play a game of hoax, which is a prank that they do every year. For this year they were going to scare the kids with a monster called Don Clay. When they achieved there prank it seemed as if they all notice that the monster was reel. What was supposed to be a prank became a disaster when the fake monster was misunderstood for a real monster. The fake monster was elsewhere. The reel monster had taken Carmela with him and she was nowhere to be found! The mystery and journey to find one of the counselors name Carmela begins and the danger of a loose monster on the woods becomes a problem! I loved this book because it shows a lot of mystery in the woods. It is not predictable at all and it kept me reading without being able to put the book down. I would give this book a five out of five!
