'In the darkness the harbinger sings, Of death, destruction, The end of all things.' An injured soldier crosses a moor in the midst of a storm, a man chases an elusive woman through the streets of York, four children play in an abandoned house on a crumbling cliff top... Containing eight chilling stories of love, despair, loneliness and redemption, Into Dust is a collection of supernatural tales which will have you lighting a fire, reaching for a drink and, of course, locking your door.
I feel fortunate to have bought this on publication day and able to be among the first to sample the work of this startlingly good new author. The prose is crisp, fine and clear, the tales of both riveting, quivering and moving. This book will appeal to a wide range of readers, anyone who likes a well written book and a good story. I love the way B M Keeling manages to take the everyday, twist it, turn it, subvert it and leave a haunting story that lingers long after the book is closed. her use of language is exceptional. Welcome to the world of literature.
Devastatingly beautiful. The author artfully weaves ethereal tales of love, loss, hope and doom together in this book. The stories resonate between one another like an echo. There is a strong sense of ineluctability here. Sometimes the outcome is tragic, other times healing. And although looking for a happy ending is futile, Keeling manages to give her readers a sense of closure as most of her characters feel at peace in the end. My favorites: red carnations for my love, Beneath the brushwood, and We all go the same way home. Highly recommend
