Crypto-Lists: Crack the Categorically Clever Codes

Rate this book
Cryptograms are a great source of the “aha!” moment. These “crypto-lists” up the fun and the challenge. Rather than just figuring out a pithy quotation, solvers have to decipher an entire list of encoded words, phrases, titles, or names that fit a category—like Bathtime, Greek Gods, Headgear, and “Weird Al” Yankovic Parodies. Fill in a few letters, and a pattern emerges; everything clicks, and the message becomes clear. And, just to make things a little harder, sometimes you have to come up with the category, too!

I've done many a crypto-quiz and the lists in this book beat them all. They are categorized by theme and are, for the most part, challenging. There is a "cheat" in the back of the book where you are given one letter substitution if you need it for each puzzle. The codes are not as simple as many I've completed, and I definitely like that. I'd love to see Mr. Weiss come up with another book. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
