A parody of The Hobbit, Buster Bragger, the rubbit, finds himself forced into an adventure along with a pack of chaotic dwarves to kill a dragon. Aided by Gringo, the power mad wizard who has access to an arsenal of modern day weapons which give him his 'magic powers', Buster is taken on a drink and drug fuelled roller coaster ride, after which his life will never be the same again.
"... This book is meant to be fun. It's a laugh, a piss take. Nothing is sacred and this book gives the finger to almost everything. There is probably something in here to upset most people at one point or another. Just call the author a cunt, move on to the next paragraph and enjoy the rest of the book ..." - Foreword from the Author
At first I was a bit skeptical about the book at the initial pages about the bad language and humour, but as I kept reading, it was surprisingly not disgusting. So I liked this parody of The Hobbit, well done. The book is simple, short, and humourous. Trying hard to be too modest, and himself calling the book as "Total s**te", the author adds an extra bit of humour. There were a few times a was a little unhappy about something, but in the end it's just a fun read, a laugh, as the author mentioned.
Though I'd like to give some background on the characters and talk about them, I suck at it. All I can say is that I loved all the characters, and I like how well the characters were put to use. Especially Punchdrunk, going crazy in fights and beating the shit out of fellow dwarves for fun. I complained about Galloping not having a more significant role, but as the original goes, neither does Gollum, so that's fine I guess.
My only complaint about the book is the lack of a lot of description at places. I understand this is just a parody, and is supposed to be short, but I'm used to having a lot of description at hand. I've reduced one star just for this sole purpose, which might be unfair, but I really expected a little more.
Thanks to Steve Lauritson for listing the book in the giveaway. I hope this book is a success and would like to read a sequel.
Well... I've won this book at goodread Giveaways. I didn't really know what to expect. After the first chapter I thought, I sounds like a extremely rude and immoral Douglas Adams, I had to laugh out loud many times and as many time to think "oooh no, not that ... I don't want to read that, it's sickening". I love the Hobbit, and think it's quite a good parody but... Have I already said how disgusting and funny at the same time it is?
