Talkies Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Expression

Rate this book
Talkies outlines the theory and specific steps for a unique instructional program that helps individuals increase oral vocabulary and improve basic verbalizing skills by integrating language with mental imagery. An application of the acclaimed Visualizing and Verbalizing® program for reading and language comprehension, Talkies is more appropriate for individuals who need simpler, smaller steps of instruction to establish the imagery-language connection. The Talkies® program aligns with a theory of cognition, Dual Coding Theory, and through sequential steps brings the nonverbal code of imagery to consciousness. The goal is to engage the individual to consciously create and access mental representations and stimulate his or her awareness of the imagery-language connection. Talkies is not intended to diagnose or be an exclusive treatment for speech-language pathology or audiology disorders. Talkies® instruction may benefit students with prior third-party diagnoses of expressive language delays or autism spectrum disorders. Talkies is one of the program manuals used in the professional development training and instructional services provided by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes.

A lot harder in practice than in theory but this program can make a big difference for some.
