I gave this book a five-star rating not because it is an example of startling prose, but because it is an important history for anyone interested in building their knowledge of the early days of the automobile and racing them. Author Thomas Saal demonstrates his command of the era and certainly the biography of industrialist Alexander Winton. I think of Winton Street in Speedway, Indiana. Virtually everyone who drives past it or on it has no idea it is a namesake for this important historical figure. Search the internet and you will discover a good deal of information on Winton, including his Wikipedia page and membership in the Automotive Hall of Fame. No study of this accomplished man cannot include reading this important contribution to the body of knowledge about early 20th century industry.
