Great stock photographs of snakes before, after, and while they are shedding their skin and simple text explain why this happens. As with the other books in this series, readers are encouraged to find the answers to additional, related questions. For instance, they are asked to think about why the skin left behind a snake is inside out. Interestingly, snakes aren't the only creatures to shed their skin. I didn't realize that lizards and frogs do so as well. Ah, the things that can be learned from a neat children's book. This one is perfect to introduce young readers to snakes and one of their habits necessary for them to survive.
